Police are still searching for the second motorcyclist who reportedly left the scene after the crash.
(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - A Gresham man is dead after he crashed his motorcycle in what police believe may have been a high speed race with another motorcyclist Thursday afternoon.
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to a report of a motorcycle crash on Sunnybrook Road east of I-205 around 2:45 p.m. The reports coming into deputies was that the motorcycle had been travelling at speeds near 100 mph before it crashed.
Witnesses also reported seeing the motorcyclist racing with another motorcycle, who did not stay at the scene after the crash.
Police said Jones was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but did not have a Oregon driving record that reflected a motorcycle endorsement.
The second motorcyclist that was reported to be racing with the deceased has not been identified and what culpability they might have in this crash is not known at this time. Investigators are continuing to determine actual speeds and other factors about the crash.
