Clackamas County Sheriff's Detectives Arrest Marshall Arts Instructor For Alleged Sex Abuse

Mullens was arrested for one count of first-degree Sex Abuse and one count of third-degree Sex Abuse in the third degree.

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Detectives arrested 37-year old William "Brent" Mullens Thursday morning just after 9:00 a.m. at his residence located on SE Fuller Road, in Milwaukie, Oregon. Earlier this week, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Detectives received information that William Mullens, who is best known as "Brent Mullens", may have sexually abused two of his minor male students. Mullens is a martial arts instructor and proprietor of the Northwest Martial Arts studio, located at 13175 SE Sunnyside Road, in Clackamas, Oregon. A web site exists on the internet linking to this place of business.

Sheriff's Detectives promptly conducted their criminal investigation focusing of these sex abuse allegations; which resulted in today's arrest of Mullens at his residence on SE Fuller Road.

Mullens was arrested at his residence – without incident – transported to the Clackamas County Jail and lodged for one count of first-degree Sex Abuse and one count of third-degree Sex Abuse in the third degree.

His bail is set at $257,500.

Mullens is scheduled for arraignment to address this matter Friday, August 21, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. in Clackamas County Circuit Court.

William Brent Mullens has no prior criminal history recorded in law-enforcement data bases.

Based on these serious allegations of sex abuse involving Mullens and two prior, minor aged, male martial arts students - Clackamas County Sheriff's Office detectives are concerned other victims may exist. Sheriff's Office investigators are encouraging other potential victims to please come forward and report any suspicious activity to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office urges anyone with information concerning this crime to the contact the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office's confidential Tip Line -- by phone at 503-723-4949.

It is also important to note that Mr. Mullens has only been arrested and has not been convicted. Salem-News.com has carried stories where people accused of similar crimes were acquitted or found not guilty.

He was an instructor in my school for my fifth grade class and he always cracked inappropriate jokes. He "accidentally" fell on kids and tucked in shirts for people while they were doing handstands. I filed a complaint with our school and the principle of our school didn't believe me. After a couple moments of complaining, he finally called in "Sensai Brent" and he made it very awkward. A few other people also filed complaints but the staff didn't do anything.

Oh yea totally understandable Zack, Daniel, Jason they were not weirdos and I became suspicious when they all started quitting. Brent had very disgusting jokes all the time and I really became pissed when he touched my ass. thought nothing of it went to my friends that day let his mom know and she told me straight up that it's a pedo I kept going to his school for the next 2 years. I have known Brent Ever since I started attending his classes at his "grange dojo" and I went to like 3 tournaments with him. First time we went he had his crappy jeep and in the car he again recited nasty jokes and said "don't tell your parents"  that was in 2002. I know all the instructors he knew... Jeff, Mike, you name it. At first he wasn't wierd but later once you start to trust him that's when stuff starts to happen. First thing that really freaked me out about the guy is his wierd smile. I was like 11 and he would give me a look with a grin on his face and his eyes half clossed that really was uncomfortable. He would always promote sleep overs and giving people rides. In 2002 when I went to the tournament with him I didn;t sleep over because my parents didn't trust him since he dyed his hair. At the tournament one of the guys that spent the night at his place told me that he put on porn for them to watch (keep in mind we were all 11-12 years old.) I used to work for Brent and did a lot of work around the dojo like painting, cleaning etc. And whenever I was alone with the guy I would always get a wierd vibe. like you don't know what's wrong. One time I was painting alone with Brent and I asked him "Where is everyone else?" He said " ohhh you are uncomfortable with me that's why you want someone else here" I don't know what happend to Zack, Jason or Daniel wish they would some how contact and let the world know what brent did because I totally understand and I know them. Parents might find it hard to believe that brent was like this but believe it look into the past you were never with your child 24/7. I worked for Brent and had the pleasure of teaching and helping out in the little kids class and teen class. And, while parents where there Brent was all hush-hush. But, when parents where away he was a little bit more nasty, nasty. It sucks to see such a cool person that you admire and trust to be a pedophile. I mean Brent was cool always had cool trips we went to, and he even took the little kids to Disney Land. The day before he got arrested he was in a really happy mood texting me to go look for a job opportunity I trusted the guy and now I know why he was so impatient all the time "He even told me to see him ALONE" Brent Still owes me $600  btw and needs to delete the fake myspace account he made of me the little as*hole

I have known Brent for years. I use to train with him and he taught me. I use to sit and watch him help out the kids and never once did I see anything inappropriate. The kids all loved him and never once did I see one of them act like he made them uncomfortable or like they where afraid of him. It is very hard for me to believe he could do something like this. But then again there are people out there that are very good at hiding things like this.

Yes Brent had a thing for touching people innapropriately. I think that is why Jason left to. I hung out with Zack and Daniel... they where not wierdos

well guess what guys, you say, that zack disrespected him, well ur wrong, zack always was respectfull to brent until all the touching and stuff ecurred and if you want to call him a liar just because what brent told everyone what happened, then hostley brent got in ur head too..

what about people that do not even know zach and made reports against him

There are definitely ex students that hate sensei... including zach that was talking in the video on the fox 12 news. i never heard him say anything good about sensei. looks like he finally found a way to "get back" at him for doing what a sensei is supposed to do... discipline and teach respect. just because he made some kids do a bunch of push ups because they kept disrespecting doesnt mean you should start hating him. you deserved it. brent is not stupid enough to do something like this and put his entire life/career/future at risk. definitely innocent until proven guilty.

My partner lived with Brent for a few years when he was younger. He took his classes from the age of 12 through to the age of 18 and also taught some his younger classes. In no way shape or form did Brent EVER act inappropriately. He is such a lovely, kind and professional human being.

I used to take his classes and i never seen anything out of ordinary. He seemed like an average MMA instructor.

I know Brent, and he is differant,if anyone else has been abused will you please come forward. We do not what him back out to do his thing if he is guilt. I believe that he is guilty.

This guy used to teach my school how to do karate is school. He callled it "brain gym". It's were he taught us how to do cool kicks and stuff. I never saw him touch any body except for in the responsible way! I called up all my friends and told them about what happened, and me and all my friends never thought that out of all the people our "sensai" would be arreseted for sexual abuse.

Innocent until proven guilty. I've been reading that he's inappropriate in his classes, but I don't believe that there was any touching, ever.

We have know brent for several years while my son is currently enrolled in his training. Brent has ALWAYS been nothing but appropriate towards the children and teaching them respect, to be aware of others who make them feel uncomfortable and to stand up for yourself. We believe this is just an attempt to "get back" at Brent from an ex troubled student. Brent is innocent until he is proven guilty!

The guy may be a "perve" but calling him a "homo" is brand gay people as perverts and potential criminals. I have known many gay people through the years and it's just about sexual orientation. What some do with it the same as heterosexual men who rape women.

unknow if you have first hand info on this guy please CALL the police . If you are just making non factual statements you will find yourself judged accordingly ! If the evidence convicts this guy of harmful activities his judgement will be severe ! Looks likes another sad case for all involved . Possibly another breach of trust from those giving guidance to the young and acting as role models .
