".. all I can say is we are blessed and very thankful, thanks go out in all directions" - Tim King

(CLEVELAND) - The recognition of rock solid reporting is profoundly rare; many journalists work for years without receiving such accolades. Among awards, there are cases where a journalist submits content, and the more rare events where a group simply nominates a reporter for an award based one or more report that made a profound difference.

Tim and Bonnie King were recently presented with the

Excellence in Journalism Award

Presented to
Tim King, Vice President/Executive Director of Salem-News.com
and
Bonnie King, Publisher of Salem-News.com
In recognition of their thorough, careful and lucid reporting on issues of concern to veterans and motorcyclists along with the public at large. Your contributions will not be forgotten.
Presented by the Oregon Confederation of Motorcycle Clubs November 2010

Tim King says the best thing about receiving the 2010 Excellence in Journalism award from the Oregon Confederation of Motorcycle Clubs, is the fact that his wife Bonnie, the General Manager of Salem-News.com, was equally recognized.

"These guys with the COC are so damned gracious and kind. They simply can't believe a news agency in the U.S. has the ability to look at biker stories with an open mind. Quiet Mike in particular, when he read the award aloud, was extremely eloquent. I wish the public could see these people for who they are. Sadly, most reporters fail to understand this culture, and they just write down what the police tell them. As Paul Harvey used to always say, Here's the rest of the story."

"One last thing", King added. "What on earth did I do to end up with a team including a poet like Luke Easter? We are so flattered and appreciative of his work at all times, but this... all I can say is we are blessed and very thankful, thanks go out in all directions."

Award? An achievement or accomplishment, presenting the facts,
Tim & Bonnie King, Salem-News.com, continually fighting back,
As if the heroes of yesteryear were to resurface in the world today,
Honesty, truth and justice reintroduced the original American way.

In today’s media, the news is not the news presented as truth per se,
Entertainment, socialist value, ratings and sponsors get in the way,
Sometimes three different networks same story three points of view,
Disparaging different as an animal in the jungle vs. one in the zoo.

Tim & Bonnie's COC award

Americans traditionally encourage youth to be involved in a group,
Upstanding citizens, pillar of the community, Girl/Boy Scout troop,
United common sense cause identified by the wearing of a uniform,
Rendering a right through justice as soldiers beyond Dessert Storm.

Where injustice is found within the country of, “give me your poor,”
By the form of, “Criminal Profiling” in itself a criminal act & more,
Associated in this instance, a particular motorcycle club, a jail term,
No drugs, shooting, no money was stolen but someone had to learn.

Southern Oregon Motorcycle Club it was just a small in house matter,
But the Attorney General’s, “bragging rights” escalated in his chatter,
Tim wrote he tried to make it look like he captured the Manson Family,
Their ritual of member’s criminal past was the, “Crime of the Century.”

One local club has been unduly harassed about a crime committed in 1968,
And more than two thirds of its members were born long after that date,
Is it still a crime when it involves shoddy police work & illegal activity?
Law Enforcement has the right to be above the law in what community?

A tree has bad fruit the Sherlock Holmes’ process of elimination begins,
So utterly senseless to destroy the entire orange grove or vineyard when,
Single plant in the crop or one harvest has a worm embedded deep within,
Although in, “Numbers” a couple of million were destroyed because of ten.

“Gang” can have a demonstrative meaning or something pertaining to elite,
Twisted and tied down referred to as a, “Gang of Tulips” still smell sweet,
Care of issues concerning veterans & motorcyclists will not be forgotten,
Salem-News realizes one bad apple doesn’t make the whole barrel rotten,

Only one Old Testament only one Creator and He alone has total authority,
We need to let His book be an example or guideline for every written story,
Therefore an Excellence in Journalism Award was given to Bonnie and Tim,
Presented by the Oregon Confederation of Motorcycle Clubs November 2010.

Luke Easter is a poet who writes about things that are very close to the heart of Salem-News.com. Another former U.S. Marine, Luke heals the world with an approach that reaches people on a different level, one known for centuries, yet too often forgotten in the one we live in.

We live in a world of social & economic injustice. The main reason for founding America in the first place was to relieve the oppression of the King of England. Patrick Henry said it best, “give me liberty or give me death.” And yet, all too often death seems to be the only way out. Why is there such a high suicide rate especially among teens, in the land of the free & the home of the brave? What makes headlines? Good news? Ha! More depressing stories than anything else. I feel poetry takes an edge off the hurt of bad news while still delivering it but in a, “glitzy” sort of way. Giving a different perspective. Kind of like slap in the face as opposed to a knife in the back. At least with the slap you’ll live to see another day and you will know whom it’s from. I wasn’t here for the beginning of the world but at 59, I just might be here for the end.

Even though it’s still a knife, rhyme poetry helps to dull the blade. And that’s my job. You can write to Luke Easter at: lyricsfromlucas@aol.com
