(SALEM, Ore.) - A jail inmate who fled from a Marion County work crew was located and arrested Tuesday, according to Lt. Sheila Lorance with the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

She says arrested Derik Morganstern around 2:40 p.m. after they received a call indicating he was seen walking on Lancaster Drive NE.

"Morganstern was returned to the Marion County Jail where he has been reclassified and is now considered Maximum Security. This means he will not be considered for movement to the work center or work crews," Lorance said.

Reports have been submitted to the Marion County District Attorney's Office and they will determine if Escape charges will be filed against Morganstern.

He reportedly walked away from a Marion County Work Center on 12-28-09, at approximately 10:20 a.m. He had been on a work crew at the Oregon State Fairgrounds. Morganstern was serving a 182 day sentence on a Burglary II charge out of Marion County. He was moved to the work center from the jail on 12-27-09 with a release date of 5-4-2010. Today was Morganstern's first day on the work crew.
