Marion County Launches New Geographic Information Web SiteOnce accessed, maps can be viewed, saved or printed for free.
(Salem) - The Marion County Department of Information Technology has launched a new geographic information system Web site that allows the public to view and download all kinds of current mapping information specific to Marion County. Access to this site is free. Useful features of this site are several interactive on-line "map books" that contain maps produced by several county departments including: assessor's maps, rural and urban zoning maps from the Planning Division, election precinct maps from the Elections Division of the Clerk's Office, and Public Works road and operations maps. These map books are constructed so users can access individual maps by "drilling down" through various county views to a desired location. Once accessed, these maps can be viewed, saved or printed. Another popular feature of this Web site is an interactive on-line map called the "Marion County Internet Mapper." This site allows users to interactively navigate through Marion County map information, search for a location by address, and customize the map's look by turning a wide variety of map layers on and off. Information on the Marion County Internet Mapper includes aerial photographs, city limits, Marion County zoning, roads, parcel lines, election precinct boundaries, school district boundaries, park locations, fire district boundaries, garbage hauler district boundaries, hospital locations, police and fire department locations. Users can even click on a specific location and get a list of information like zoning, election precinct, garbage hauler phone number, and soil type. Also on this site are details about available Marion County GIS data, how to go about obtaining GIS data from Marion County, and past, current and upcoming projects by the GIS Division of the Marion County Department of Information Technology.
