Perilous Rescue on Mount Hood Ends for Rescued Climbers

Two of the rescued three are reported to be attending a reunion of the complete climbing party at Timberline Lodge.

(MOUNT HOOD) - 4:30 PM Update The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office reports the three climbers have been safely removed from the peril and turmoil that threatened their lives on Mount Hood.

One of the three climbers, whose name is being withheld until family notifications have been completed, has been transported to Oregon Health Sciences University Hospital, in Portland.

This female patient is described to have suffered a head injury during the fall she and her two climbing companions experienced Sunday morning; while they were negotiating a portion of Illumination Saddle, at approximately the 8,500' level of Mount Hood. This injured climber was capable of walking off the mountain with her rescuers this afternoon and is predicted to totally recover soon.

During a debriefing session conducted with the rescued trio, it was revealed these three climbers had fallen over a ledge and tumbled an estimated 400 – 500' down the mountain. This is a fall determined to be much greater than the original 100' that had initially been reported earlier during this rescue mission.

The two additional rescued climbers are identified as: Matty Bryant, born in April, of 1972; a Milwaukie School Teacher.

The remaining climber is identified as Kate Hanlon, born in August, of 1972; Kate is a school teacher in Wilsonville.

Both Kate Hanlon and Matty Bryant are in good physical condition, and are reported to be attending a reunion of the complete climbing party at Timberline Lodge.
