VIDEO: Salem Water Rescue Leads to Safe Recovery

Salem Fire crews were involved in the dramatic rescue of a woman today who was toppled from her kayak in Salem's Mill Creek.
The woman was accompanied by three other kayakers when her problems began shortly after 1:00 p.m.

Survivor Recounts Rescue from Flooded Willamette River Bank

Fortunately, the victim had a cell phone that allowed her to notify 911.
(SALEM) -
Water Rescue crews from Salem Fire and other local agencies had their hands full today when a call came in from several victims trapped by rising flood waters on the Willamette River.
The Willamette River crested today at 28.5". The woman in the video below, relates her story of being caught by rising river flood waters that left her no escape route.

Car Washes under Flooded Albany Intersection, at Least One Child Missing

Rescue crews will re initiate their mission to recover victims from the vehicle in the morning.
(ALBANY) -
Fire officials in Albany had the sad task of searching for missing children after a vehicle was washed out of a grocery store parking lot, into a creek swollen by heavy rains, and under the intersection of SE Geary St & Queen Ave SE.
Wanda Omdahl with Albany Fire, says rescue crews responded to the scene and one adult and one child were pulled out of the water on the other side of the bridge.

Two Lucky Dogs -- George and Doug - Survive Landslide Along Clackamas River

Clackamas officials save two of man's best friends.
(Clackamas, Oregon) -
Today at 12:46 p.m. it was reported to Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Deputies that two, adult Golden Retriever dogs had been swept away by a landslide that carried the animals an estimated 175 ft. down to the base of a cliff in Eagle Creek.
This particular slide location is reported to have an impressive 80 degree slope too.

Coast Guard Airlifts Stranded Boaters Near Goat Island, Wash.

The Coast Guard encourages all boaters to remain aware of weather and tidal conditions and to wear a life jacket.
(ASTORIA, Ore.) -
The Coast Guard airlifted two people after their skiff ran aground in Skagit Bay just southeast of La Conner, Wash., Thursday.
At approximately 6:00 p.m., Skagit County, Wash. Sheriff’s Dept. received a call stating a 20-ft inflatable skiff had run aground in shallow water just south of Goat Island.

One Seriously Injured in Two Alarm Aloha House Fire

(ALOHA, Ore.) -
Firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue's Aloha Station 62 rescued a woman from a burning home this morning. She was quickly transported to Legacy Emmanuel Hospital with life threatening injuries.
A neighbor called 911 at 9:44 Saturday morning reporting smoke and flames coming from a two story home located at 1756 SW Harvey Way in Aloha.

Small Piece of Equipment Big Help in Rescuing Hypothermic Man From Overturned Kayak Near Brookings

(Coos Bay, Oregon) -
A small piece of equipment was a big help last week when an Oregon State Police (OSP) Fish & Wildlife Division trooper and Brookings Fire Department personnel rescued a 44-year old Brookings-area man from an overturned kayak in the Chetco River near Brookings.
Using the trooper's throw bag, the hypothermic man was pulled from the river and taken to a local hospital where he was treated and later released.

Off Duty Salem Cop Doubles as Hero at Detroit Lake

Three individuals worked together to rescue a drowning victim, one was a local Salem school resources officer.
(DETROIT LAKE) -
A 15-year old Portland youth was evacuated from Detroit Lake Sunday afternoon, following a near-drowning incident. Deputies from Marion County Sheriff's Marine Patrol, along with Detroit- Lyons Medics, responded to the Hoover boat ramp at about 2:45 p.m.
Don Thomson with the Marion County Sheriff's Office says as it turns out, one of the man's rescuers was an off-duty Salem Police officer.

Injured Climber Rescued from Mount Hood

The Oregon National Guard flew the climber out to safety with non life threatening injuries.
(MT. HOOD, Ore.) -
The Clackamas County Sheriffs Office Search and Rescue Team along with Portland Mountain Rescue, Mountain Wave and Timberline lodge employees responded to a fallen climber on Mt. Hood just below the summit.

U.S. Coast Guard identifies MH-60 helicopter crew.
(SEATTLE) -
The U.S. Coast Guard has identified the one survivor and three crew members who lost their lives, Wednesday, after their MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crashed in the waters off of James Island, near La Push, Wash.
Lt. Lance D. Leone, 29, of Ventura, Calif., survived the crash and is being treated at a Seattle hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He is married.
