Car Washes under Flooded Albany Intersection, at Least One Child MissingVideo by Jerry Freeman Salem-News.comRescue crews will re initiate their mission to recover victims from the vehicle in the morning.
(ALBANY) - Fire officials in Albany had the sad task of searching for missing children after a vehicle was washed out of a grocery store parking lot, into a creek swollen by heavy rains, and under the intersection of SE Geary St & Queen Ave SE. Salem-News.com's Jerry Freeman recently cleared the scene at the Mega Food store, Wanda Omdahl with Albany Fire, says rescue crews responded to the scene and one adult and one child were pulled out of the water on the other side of the bridge. It was not clear exactly how many people were in the vehicle, but at least one child is reportedly missing, possibly more. Omdahl says the rescue operation is now a recovery mission, as the odds of anyone surviving the torrential waters under the flooded intersection were apparently not possible. At this point the fire crews have stood down, and will re initiate their mission to recover victims from the vehicle in the morning.
