Corvallis Police Searching For Police ImpersonatorSalem-News.comCorvallis Police are asking for help identifying the suspect and vehicle.
(CORVALLIS) - Corvallis police are warning the public to be on the lookout for man who is impersonating a police officer. Police say a man with a flashing red light on his car pulled over a woman Monday night in Corvallis. The victim was on Northwest Walnut Boulevard about 6:00 PM when she was stopped by a man she thought was a police officer. The suspect, who was driving a dark car, possibly a Chevrolet Camaro or Pontiac Firebird, told the woman that her car was reported stolen and told her to get out. She became suspicious, and when he tried to open her door, she rolled up the window and drove away unharmed. He is described as a white man about 5’8 with a medium build and short brown or auburn hair. He is between 35 and 40 years old and was wearing a dark, button-up, long-sleeved shirt, dark pants and dark shoes. Corvallis Police say if you are stopped and not sure if the person is a police officer, ask to see his or her department-issued identification. You can also confirm the stop is legitimate by calling 9-1-1. Give the dispatcher your location, the description of your vehicle and the officer's name. Anyone with information on this case is urged to call Officer Bryan Rehnberg at (541) 766-6729, ext. 8610.

See how well this worked for historian Felipe Fernandez-Armesto in Atlanta when harassed about jay-walking. He was thrown to the ground and arrested, then jailed for 8 hours. I think I would rather just be mugged by the criminal impersonator, (and if the criminal raped you too, it would be almost exactly like going to jail, minus the humilalition of having a public record of the event.)
