(SALEM) - The 1042nd Medical Air Ambulance Company - Army National Guard dispatched an OH-58 helicopter at approximately 2:00 PM Thursday afternoon.

A Guard spokesman says the crew is on a search and rescue mission, six miles east of Roseburg, for a missing 25-year-old female hiker.

The Oregon Guard unit out of Salem operates Blackhawk helicopters as well as the OH-58 Kiowa helicopters which pilots consider an excellent search platform, though the OH-58's are considerably smaller.
