Search Resumes for Two Boys, 4 And 5, Missing in Rural Clatsop CountySalem-News.comThe U.S. Coast Guard helicopter has joined in the search for the two boys, and their 10-month old lab.
(ASTORIA) - A search is under way in rural Clatsop County for two young brothers, ages 4 and 5, who wandered off while camping at an old family home. The family, from the Portland area, was wrapping up the trip when the boys disappeared around 10:30 AM Monday. The home, is located on Lillenas Road off Oregon Highway 202, about 11 miles from Astoria. The boys are blonde and dressed in white t-shirts, light-colored shorts and sandals. They are accompanied by a 10-month-old black Labrador retriever. Family members searched the old farm, which is several acres. The mother thought she heard the boys around 12:30 PM. The Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office was called in and started its search around 2:00 PM Sheriff More than 45 people from the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team and High Angle Rescue Team, volunteer firefighters from three rural departments, the Oregon Department of Forestry and canine search teams from the Sheriff’s Office and from Portland were involved in the effort. The parents and other relatives are at the search site. Shortly after 11:00 PM, the search was scaled back. as darkness made conditions too dangerous. The terrain is marked with steep gullies and thick underbrush and abuts Weyerhaeuser timberlands. Through the night, searchers are posted in various locations to listen and watch for any signs of the boys and the dog. Monday night temperatures were fairly clear with temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s. The search resumed at daylight with additional resources from Yamhill, Washington and Multnomah counties, including more search dogs.
