(GENEVA The Island) - Editor's note: Salem-News.com has not hesitated in taking an obvious position on the Sri Lanka war and the mass ethnic cleansing that left up to 160,000 Tamil people missing and dead by the summer of 2009. This article by The Island carries the point of view of the government of Sri Lanka. Little exists in common between most of our articles and this story, however it is important to allow our readers a glance from the other side and the article is totally correct in stating that the terrible wars in the Middle east conducted by both the US and UK, also should receive the same scrutiny.

Those responsible for ‘Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields’ will telecast another documentary, ‘War Crimes Unpunished’ on Mar. 14 to coincide with United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) sessions now in progress. The sessions go till March 23.

The propaganda documentary directed by Callum Macrae is produced by London-based ITN productions, which produced ‘Sri Lanka Killing Fields’ first telecast in last June. It is scheduled to be telecast at 10.55 pm on Channel 4.

The UK based ‘Channel 4 News’ presenter Jon Snow, who had presented ‘Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields’ will present part II as well.

Government sources told The Island that the move was expected in the wake of the UK, US and EU going flat out at Geneva confab, where the US planned to move a resolution targeting Sri Lanka towards the end of the 19th sessions.

The US-led grouping and human rights watchdogs, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and Global Crisis Group are citing ‘Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields’ as evidence of war crimes committed by the Sri Lankan military. Government sources said that ‘War Crimes Unpunished’ could now be added to their arsenal. Once they telecast the documentary, the UK, US, EU and those involved in the lucrative peace industry issue statements condemning Sri Lanka, sources said. The US was expected to hand over its resolution to the UNHRC after the launch of the propaganda documentary, which would allege accountability on the part of the top political leadership, sources said.

Sources alleged that for those expecting to raise funds, Sri Lanka bashing seemed to be the easiest thing to do. They pointed out that the Canadian branch of the Amnesty International recently received 50,000 Canadian dollars from LTTE front, the Canadian Tamil Congress in return for its role in the ongoing anti-Sri Lanka campaign. Here in Geneva, the Amnesty International came under fire for accepting money from a known LTTE front.

The latest propaganda blitz is also expected to be shown at the UN in Geneva, New York and House of Commons and the European Parliament. Sources said that the C4 would reiterate the previous allegations, including the deaths of over 40,000 Tamil speaking people.

GoSL delegation said that the British media could start investigating atrocities committed by US and UK forces since 9/11 on the basis of revelations made by whistle-blowing website, Wiki Leaks over the past two years. Unlike unsubstantiated allegations, the British media was depending, Wiki Leaks had exposed classified military and diplomatic cables, which dealt with atrocities committed by Western forces. In fact they should first inquire into the delay on the part of UK to finish Iraq war inquiry almost a decade after the invasion of oil-rich country falsely alleging the Iraqi government of making weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), the GoSL delegation said.

Responding to a query, the Sri Lankan delegation alleged that Western powers and a section of the international media had created the impression that Iraq was on the verge of developing WMDs to justify the invasion, which the then UNSG Kofi Annan subsequently declared was illegal. The delegation said that the UK media operation was nothing but a lie targeting Sri Lanka. The delegation likened the ongoing media operation involving Western powers and a section of the press to the media blitz targeting Iraq. The GoSL urged those faithfully following Channel 4 documentaries to peruse the British intelligence dossier launched on Sept. 24, 2002 to pave the way for the invasion in March the following year. The entire dossier was available on the internet now and could be assessed by anyone, sources said.
