(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - The Oregon Department of Transportation has begun its scheduled closing of the Van Buren Avenue Bridge in Corvallis.

ODOT will close the bridge from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, Monday through Friday until mid-April.

Crews are making repairs and painting the historic bridge.

During the repairs, the contractor will replace steel parts of the bridge that have corroded because of failures in the lead-based paint.

During the nighttime hours, Van Buren Street traffic will be detoured to Second Street and over the Harrison Street Bridge, which will be converted to two-way traffic while the repairs are taking place.

Once the contractor has put containment structures into place to keep debris from falling into the river, they will begin sand-blasting to remove the old paint.

After that, primer and a new coat of paint are scheduled to be applied in early May.

The project is scheduled to be competed in mid-November.
