Local Businesses Will Sponsor Iraq Coverage: the Countdown is On!

The time for Tim's departure is nearing, and the fact that these Oregon businesses are responding to our call is extremely valuable in accomplishing our goals.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com reporter Tim King is less than eight days away from shipping overseas to cover Oregon Guard troops deployed in Iraq. His departure from the United States is set for April 3rd.

Two Oregon businesses, Kadel's Auto Body and the Best Little Roadhouse in Salem, will be sponsoring some of the only media reports coming out of Iraq that specifically cover the Oregon Guard soldiers during their year long tour.

We greatly appreciate their decisions to join local businesses like Eola Hills Winery, Adams Rib Smokehouse, Monte's Coins & More, the Reed Opera House, and Windemere Western View Properties in getting behind our efforts to bring images of these fellow Oregonians home for their families and other Americans to see; images of their day to day life far from home in an unpopular war.

Our Tim King believes the coverage in Iraq is extremely important and stresses the need for everyone in Oregon to remember that our Guard soldiers are performing a variety of roles in Iraq, and all are spending a long period away from their families.

"Those serving in Iraq are going to forever remember the experience," Tim said. "It seems imperative in this modern world of media that someone would spend time with these Oregonians and document what they did and are doing in Iraq."

In Afghanistan last winter, Tim King covered the soldiers daily missions and accomplishments, and was able to present factual stories that showed our soldiers in action, documenting everything from foot patrols to humanitarian aid missions.

In Iraq, Tim will be able to do the same thing, and his knowledge of this important conflict will be heightened after spending four to six weeks there this spring. This mission will be a positive contribution to Tim's experience, as he often writes about military events and affairs.

Watch for "In Country: Iraq" series starting the week of April 6, reports from Iraq with Tim King.

Also, Tim wants to thank all of the people who helped with his work in Afghanistan. Even if Tim can not upgrade his ballistic vest, he has one he can use in the meanwhile thanks to the Salem, Oregon Police SWAT team. He has a combat helmet from Nopp's Jewelers in Salem. They are only part of the help we received, and we have not forgotten that generosity. We hope you feel it was put to good use.

Advertisers:
We have a very small sales staff and appreciate the outreach of advertisers. Our rates are very low next to many other media options, and our average number of daily unique visitors last month, February, 2008, was 14,069. Our total number of visitors for the entire month of February was 408,007.

Your business Website will rank higher overnight if you are listed on Salem-News.com, and your relationship to us will help guide people toward your Website. We rarely have a day with less than 10,000 visitors. One day in February, 2008 saw 59,343 unique visitors in 24-hours. Your display ad (banner/tile/skyscraper) can also be a "link" but more importantly, it is like a billboard and people see it as they do any ad and they pay attention if it is good and well placed and has sufficient size.

Our monthly advertising rates start at less than $400 a month. We will help you develop your advertisement and if you do not have a Website, we will create an online presence for your business on Salem-News.com. People who select your ad will be directed to the page we create for you, with images and information you want to share with your community and world, all at the same time.
