In Eulogy: Cannabis Community Suffers Loss of Another Freedom Fighter

"Unable are the loved to die. For love is immortality." ~Emily Dickinson

Seeva Cherms
Seeva Cherms, RIP

(EUGENE, Ore.) - It is with very deep sorrow that I must inform all of you that our Cannabis-Family has lost yet another invaluable freedom fighting activist.

Born in Sacramento, California on June 6, 1968, Seeva Marie Moreno-Cherms elected to leave our world prematurely in her Grass Valley, California home.

Seeva is the only daughter of Linda Sturdivant of Point Reyes, California who was a single parent. She shared what homelife she had with her younger brother Anthony Owens, of Oakland, California.

Seeva told friends that she met Jack Herer, the iconic hemp activist, when she was a young teen, and through the years grew to know and love him, and was his #1 Jack's Girl.

She attended Venice High School, and C. K. McClatchy High School in Sacramento, California, where she graduated.

At 19, Seeva married her soul mate "The Rev" Steven Cherms, whom she had known since the young age of 6, and they grew up together.

Seeva and Steve have two beautiful daughters, Haley (age 22), and Summer Raine, known as Herer's own proclaimed "God-Daughter", age 13.

Seeva was excited about becoming a grandmother for the first time, to a baby girl expected in September to daughter Haley & her husband David.

Seeva and Jack Herer, 2008

The most highlighted among her many accomplishments, Seeva was a very talented photographer and martial artist, and a even a professional bounty hunter, as well as an ordained minister in three churches: The United Cannabis Ministries, The Hawaii Cannabis Ministry, and The Universal Life Church.

Seeva was devoted to helping many people both as a Spiritual and a Sacrament Counselor, including Jack Herer personally, over the course of a great many years.

She was a special spirit, considered a sister to many of us.

Seeva will be honored at the 2011 "Burning Man" event in late August because she was the very first woman ever named as an author to a political initiative.

A special Celebration of Life gathering is scheduled on her birthday, June 6th in downtown Oroville, California from 2:00 until 6:00 PM via her husband and daughters for family & friends. Please contact the family for information.

All who knew & genuinely cared for Seeva are encouraged to attend the gathering to share your heartfelt sympathies, respects, memories & condolences.

"Peace, Love n Unity~ ♥ Namaste ♥"

I was blessed to have met you, have you in my life, listen to your stories, participate in your adventures and to love you. May you rest in peace my Dearest Sister. We love and miss you so very much. Linda-Seev's Mother April 13, 2013 6:17 pm (Pacific time)

It will be 2 years on April 19th that my Beautiful and Loving Daughter took her life. They Pain for Me Is Unbearable. I cannot and will not ever stop thinking of the what ifs, and of course I am VERY BITTER. I gave her life ~ She gave me a reason to live. When I lost Seeva, I lost my will to even try to be here for my Granddaughters, and now Seevas Beautiful Granddaughter, and My Great Granddaughter, Madison Marie. My Heart Aches, My Pain shouts from the top of the mountains, and I go to the Ocean and Beach where we held her Memorial here in Point Reyes Staion, and scream and get on my knees and pray that I can try to be stronger for my Granddaughters. I have been in Therapy since Jan. 2012, and I am still where I was the day I walked in there, and told my therapist* That I haven't been eating or going anywhere, just laying in bed crying* I have lost 25 lbs, and am skin and bone. I ended up in the hospital Dec. 10th, 2012 almost dying, from my bad health. I talked to the man upstairs while in there, begging him to help me get over MY ANGER. I don't think I will Ever Stp screaming for My Baby, EVER. In Loving memory Seeva, you Are So Missed, by me and Haley, and Summer. Till I see You, I will not Rest In Peace`

I miss Seeva all the time, think of her fondlyand have even seen her in dreams with huge white wingsand in golden armor. There are tears sometimes, then I look through picturesand remember our good times. She was a strongand wonderful woman, a sister I got to knowand will never forget. She was always there for adviceand to help lift spirit. I speak up to her often-she helped me through a lot. I hope her pain is gone as she only wanted to help relieve others of their pain. Love you sista-u will never be forgotten.

I just can't understand why Seeva would take her own life. She just didn't seem like the type of person. I really wish someone would of seen a sign, im sure everyone wish's that. Rest in peace your an angel now looking over your beautiful family!

Joy June 6, 2011 12:41 am (Pacific time)

My deepest condolences for the family and shame on anyone who thinks they have it all figured out and know what exactly is going to happen when someone dies based solely on how they died - how is irrelevent ! She was a good person with a family that is trying to pick up the pieces of a tragedy - my love and prayers and best JuJu to all of the family -

Rev. Nancy June 2, 2011 11:39 am (Pacific time)

Rev. Steve, I am so sorry for your loss. The loss to us all. Haley, the passing of a loved one always brings about people's "bad sides." Why? Because the grief is so hard to bear after the passing of a sweet person like Seeva, so people act badly, even argue and fight, so they don't have to deal with the pain of the loss. Sending prayers for healing for those left behind. One Louve.

I was blessed to have met Sister Seeva through MySpace and had one of the greatest nights of my life hanging out with her in L.A. She had a lot of challenges in her life but she never stopped fighting the good fight. Seeva, you inspired me and your bright light will be missed by so many. Rest in Peace Sweet Seeva and thank you for always giving your best! xoxox

Our condolences to Seeva's Family and friends. The reason for her passing is irrelevant, she is one of God's Children and one of our Sisters. We hope she is at peace and we will keep Seeva and her family in our prayers. The Universal Life Church World Headquarters http://www.ulcnetwork.com

Very nice tribute to Seeva, Bonnie. I met Seeva, Steve and Summer at one of the Seattle Hempfests. They had come up from California with Jack Herer, and I got some pictures of them with Jack, Keith Stroup and others. Later, after Jack had his heart attack, I got to know Seeva, a little, over the phone. Jack even talked to her on the phone, while I was staying with him at Avamere Riverpark of Eugene. She was one of the few people who believed that Jack Herer was "in there" even before he talked to her on the phone. Seeva, I hope you found your peace and give a hug to Jack for me!

rev steven May 26, 2011 7:54 pm (Pacific time)

i would appreciate it if people would stop trying to pick a part what this page is really saying. she was a very compassionate person and worked hard and for real worked to liberate cannabis not just to get recognition. this page should only have positive statements on it. people should never speak ill of the dead or make this place a venue to air out their smarts or whatever. from her bereaved husband and kids thanks people !!! THE REV

Editor: Right on Rev. Let's be respectful folks. Thank you.

with all due respect, and not taking anything away from her accomplishments, "elected" seems to me she took her own life? I wont elaborate, if you dont know what I am thinking, then telling you would not do any good.

ElectroPig Von FökkenGrüüven May 26, 2011 1:13 am (Pacific time)

Seeva were absolutely instrumental in verifying reports in 2009 from Amsterdam about the raid on Rick Simpson's home...while ALL other sites and magazines either refused to comment, or outright denied the "allegations" of a "potential raid", Seeva and Steve were right there with Rick in Amsterdam, and Overgrow The World was the first to report the facts to the cannabis/hemp community. Safe trip, See! We're still fighting the good fight with you in mind!
