(CORVALLIS, Oregon) - Oregon State Senior Jill Sawatzky (St. Andrews, Manitoba) was tabbed a CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District 8 First Team selection for volleyball, announced Thursday. Sawatzky is now eligible for Academic All-America consideration.

Sawatzky, a 6-2 outside hitter, is a two-time Pac-10 All-Academic First Team selection and 2010 Everyday Champion. The Business Administration with option in Marketing major has been named to the Dean’s List every term at Oregon State, while tallying perfect 4.0 GPAs in eight of her 11 terms attended.

One of this year’s team captains, she is currently fourth all-time for career kills (1,393), eighth for career kills per set (3.27), fourth for career attacks (4,009) and fourth for career points (1,591.5). Sawatzky has compiled her best season yet, posting better numbers in every category than any other season.

This is Sawatzky’s first CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District honor. She joins Gina Schmidt as the only other Oregon State volleyball player to be named to the first team, who was a two-time selection in 2000 and 2001, and Sawatzky is the first honoree since 2003.
