Another Record Goes Down in the Second Day of the Arena Invitational

(Corvallis, Oregon) - The Oregon State women's swimming team is in eighth place after two days of competition at the Arena Invitational at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif. Junior Jenni Dole set the school record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.16.

“It was another really good day of competition for us,” Oregon State swimming head coach Larry Liebowitz said following the second day of competition. “It was a day of people finishing, looking up at the score board and smiling.”

The Beavers started the day with the day with a sixth place finish in the 200 yard medley relay thanks to the group of Jenni Dole, Marisa Warman, Rachel O’Brien and Ashley Kerekanich who swam the relay in a time of 1:42.74 which is a team season best.

Rachael Wahl and Maggie Hanson both scored points for the Beavers with their times of 4:38.69 and 4:30.82 respectively in the 400 individual medley final. Both set personal bests in the prelims of the event with times of 4:26.97 and 4:28.76 respectively.

Dole and O’Brien finished seventh and eighth respectively in the 100 yard butterfly event Friday. Dole set a season best in the event with her time of 54.21 and followed it up with a time of 54.29 in the finals which is a NCAA B-cut qualifying standard. O’Brien set a season best in the event with a time of 54.48 in the event finals which is also a NCAA B-cut qualifying standard time.

Ocean Trail paced the Beavers in the 200 freestyle with her time of 1:54.07 in the prelims which is a career best time.

Warman finished 24th in the 100 breaststroke finals with a time of 1:05.83. She set a season best in the event with her time of 1:04.85 in the prelims.

Dole set a school record in the 100 yard backstroke event with her time of 53.16. Her NCAA B-cut time was good enough for a second place finish in the event.

O’Brien, Aya Fujimura, Hanson and Trail rounded out the day’s events with a 12th place finish in the 800 freestyle relay. They finished with a time of 7:35.50.

Through two days of competition the Beavers are in eighth place with a team total of 307 points. Stanford leads the invitational.

The Arena Invitational concludes Saturday with the 1,650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and the 400 freestyle relay at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool.
