(CANBY) - A man is in custody in Clackamas County for what could only be described as a bizarre set of circumstances invloving a number of burglaries and the desecration of a church in Canby.

It began October 15th at 7:45 in the morning when Ms. Celio Portillo was in the process of opening The Seventh Day Adventist church at 2180 NE Territorial Road, in Canby.

While entering the Church, Portillo realized the church had been burglarized and vandalized extensively. Alarmed with this discovery, Portillo called the police.

Responding Clackamas County Sheriff's deputies documented in their investigative crime report 17 interior doors painted with graffiti -- some of this graffiti read: Faggots; F --- Jesus; I eat babies, and sell your soul to a lye.

In addition, a swastika and devil worshipping signs were spray painted throughout the interior of this house of worship. Trophies were destroyed and a fire extinguisher had been deployed which covered the interior of the sanctuary with a fine, fire retardant powder. A cross and an American flag had been turned upside down – with the cross discovered to have a knife stuck in the center of it.

The pastor of this church, Perry Melnychenko responded and assisted investigators on the scene. With information provided by this pastor, it was determined the crime most likely occurred between 6:30 PM Sunday, October 15th – to when it was earlier discovered on Monday, October 16th, at 7:46 AM.

The Canby Police Department then brought related information forward; on the night of October 18th, at approximately 8:00 PM, Canby Police officers had responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the vicinity of this same Seventh Day Adventist Church to investigate.

Canby Police Officers located two male subjects that were found hiding inside this reported suspicious vehicle. Canby Police say these two males were contacted and immediately questioned at the scene.

As a result of this police contact and investigative inquiry: one of the occupants of this vehicle is identified as 20-year old Jedediah John Hassfeld who was arrested at the scene for the burglary at this Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Hassfeld to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Jail for the related charges of Second Degree Burglary, and Second Degree Criminal Mischief.

Bail on these charges has been established at $50,000 dollars.

Ironically, it has since been discovered that Jedediah John Hassfeld had just been arrested by the Oregon City Police Department, on October 17th, at 1:10 AM.

Oregon City Police officers report they responded to a burglary in progress alarm at the Oregon City High School, Jackson Street Campus, in Oregon City.

During this event it is reported the tempered glass in an exterior school door, accessing the band room, was discovered by the responding officers to have been broken with a large rock.

While Oregon City Police officers were inspecting the damage and securing the building; a male subject was observed wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and sunglasses. The subject was reported to be walking in the darkness while carrying a cello in his right hand -- exiting from the interior of the High School.

The suspect was immediately apprehended without further incident and identified as Jedediah John Hassfeld, born in September, 1986.

During this custody, Hassfeld was discovered to be in possession of a knife.

On this occasion, Hassfeld provided his residential address as the Oregon City Retirement Home; while declaring he was also a client of Clackamas County Mental Health.

Hassfeld was taken into custody and lodged into the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Jail.

Hassfeld was lodged for the related charges of Second Degree Burglary; First Degree Criminal Mischief and Carrying a Concealed Weapon (knife).

Total bail was established at $37,500 dollars.

Hassfeld currently remains in custody at the Clackamas County Sheriff's Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for this matter on October 26th, at 3:00 PM.

Glad this kid is finally getting what he deserves: jail time. Too bad his father believed his lies about others and thought his child was innocent. Personally, I don't think he should be let out!
