Reverend Benny & Mister Sid's At Your Service #61

Enjoy my take on Jane Austin's classic--all sixteen panels of it. Ride and Prejudice. Remember, you saw it here first.

Benny and Sid #61
By Glen Bledsoe

(Salem) - My wife is a wonderfully complex woman. She is interested in so many things--some bizarrely juxtaposed. She likes samurai movies and Jane Austin.

We've watched and enjoyed Yojimbo, The Seven Samurai, The Samurai Trilogy and others repeatedly. But I can't tell you how many movie adaptations of Pride and Prejudice we've watched together.

Mr. Darcy and all the various Janes iterations (but not the zombie version) have slid back and forth across my field of attention so many times that I could create my own version.

Perhaps there are too many versions already and no one needs yet-another adaptation to muddy Miss Austin's most enduring work. Still I'm tempted to at least begin the story, set the time and place, present a proof-of-concept for my take on the characters.

I do love the early 19th century, but why not set the story in a different era. Not today. That's too obvious. The 60's were a marvelous time. Jane becomes Sharon. Mr. Darcy, in my modest adaptation, is not named, although Sharon manages to call him a name in the last panel.

Enjoy my take on Jane Austin's classic--all sixteen panels of it. Ride and Prejudice. Remember, you saw it here first.

Glen: Twitter. And I thought I was so smart...

There's also a reference to Twitter which didn't exit in the 60's either.

Glen: I see your point, but I missed it. Doesn't spoil any of it for me. I still look forward to each one as it comes out.

An intentional anachronism. Like seeing jet contrails in a movie about Roman gladiatorial games. Part of the fun, actually.

Set in the 1960s? Rush didn't start regular broadcasting until the 1980s. I know, I know, I'm being too picky. But I think Sharon would be better off with Frank.
