Critical Needs for Salem-News.com's Tim and Bonnie King

Truth is a hard sell... don't let the bad guys beat us.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) - Those familiar with the history of Salem-News.com know that it has been a long, hard road for Bonnie and I. Truth is a hard sell in the advertising world and that is a hard fact.

Now we are in different places as many of our close friends already know; I am in California planning to go back to Afghanistan to cover the remaining part of the war, while she is in Oregon holding down the fort. I'd like to think, with all of our projects and human rights goals and accomplishments, that people would feel a need to help. Needless to say, things have slipped and there are few ways to keep our operation from nearing the edge if this need is ignored.

I work on this site publishing news seven days a week and it is a non-stop obligation. I only wish people would help us survive to carry it forward.

We have imminent needs to address that will keep the roof over the Salem-News.com operation and we need help from our supporters via PayPal and also checks can be sent to our PO Box. Regarding PayPal, for those who do not know the concept, it is a quick and easy way to flash us any amount of money, just using a credit card or debit card. Some people donate $20, some do more, just know it has been weeks since we received any type of donation an the need is super critical.

Before I go to Afghanistan, I would like to promote our book BETRAYAL: Toxic Exposure of U.S. Marines, Murder and Government Cover-Up by Robert O'Dowd and myself about the contamination of our old Marine base, the now closed El Toro Air Station that is smack dab in the middle of Southern California's famed 'South Orange County', by spending a week outside of the base distributing flyers about the book and directing people to its location via Amazon Kindle so that we can raise awareness in the city of Irvine particularly.

Items we need

For Afghanistan, Tim needs a new DSLR camera and there are units selling for less than $500 right now. Those who follow us know Tim normally packs a massive TV camera and it is not a great fit with work in a combat zone, a new camera of a smaller variety will allow Tim to record video and incredible still photos. Also, associated media like SD cards are extremely helpful. While he would like to keep his TV camera, Tim is motivated to sell the unit with accessories or trade it for a vehicle or a DSLR camera to meet the current needs of downsizing.

Tim needs a new military helmet to replace his Desert Storm helmet which weighs twice what a new one does and is not as safe. A group in Sacramento has expressed interest in providing a new MICH helmet, they are selling for around $126. If anyone has one they can spare it would be very helpful.

The same holds true for a phone Tim can use in Afghanistan, this is a difficult thing to do on a limited budget and all help is appreciated.

Tim is in the process of trying to locate a vehicle, preferably a motorcycle, to access El Toro and eventually get to Texas to embed as a reporter with the Army unit he plans to accompany to Afghanistan.

I think it is safe to say that 99% of the people who live in this area around the heavily, dangerously contaminated base, have no idea what is seething in the groundwater beneath their family homes.

I am hearing about more and more cancer cases breaking out in this area, in fact we have been reporting this danger since 2008 regularly, but we are an Oregon-based organization and only in recent years have Orange County reporters begin to address the problems and their concerns are always assuaged by local officials like Larry Agran, mayor of Irvine, who are hell bent on making millions off the old base and nothing else.

If people reading this want to help, then please visit my PayPal so I can get out of Sacramento for a few days and print a thousand tear sheets about our new book that exposes the hell out of this issue, and in front of that old base for a straight week handing these out. If the local cops want to violate my rights for standing on public property with a sign handing out promotional material for the book then let them take me away, it will only build the story up more.

But I must say that any help I receive has to assist the operation in Oregon also, so in reality my need to promote the book and promote Salem-News.com in OC is secondary to Bonnie's needs and there are many.

If donations do come through, I have friends to stay with in OC but frankly it is all a very small amount of money that is trapping us and the fact that our sponsors are often talked out of backing us by our detractors; backers of the regimes in Israel and Sri Lanka, is devastating. But we are trying to hang on and slipping a little and hope those who support our mission can help.

So, if you can help then please send what you can via the PayPal icon below, which is also located at the top right side of Salem-News.com. You can always write to me with questions at tim@salem-news.com. For Bonnie the address is bonnie@salem-news.com

One of my biggest goals is to capture more interviews in Afghanistan about PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) for a documentary that is underway. Your help can help us save lives.

For our detractors who love to classify our fundraising as 'begging', know your comments will not be approved. Call it what you want, we are trying to do good things that are important and we are incredibly under-supported. Perhaps it will take our disappearance from the Web someday to really prove this or maybe people will share with us to keep us moving.

My money keeps getting diverted to the Romney campaign. I put your organization in everytime, oh well.

DJ: Sorry, whoever you are, but your money is definitely going down a black hole.

It's amazing all the work you've managed to accomplish because you wanted to, and no other reason. I would consider that a miracle. Your work is timeless, and there is tons of great content on here to for intelligent people to ingest. If you keep going, I feel like Salem-News.com will be the future of news. Your authenticity is so beyond confirmed on your track record of always reporting vitally important stories that other news outlets don't have the guts to. Even if the mainstream news pulled a 180 right now, and started focusing on the most important and damning info, they have already lost too much trust to be taken seriously by a thinking person. They will most likely fade away into oblivion as we transition into their position. Salem-news has a core readership of thinking, intelligent and caring people. And just like in life: It's about who you know, not how many people you know. This thing is more about who reads you, not how many people. Its more about quality than quantity. I'll do what I can to help. And I say to everybody out there, you know who you are. It would be very helpful, if you feel like doing something, to kick down some cash to keep this thing going for a while longer. I think Salem-news is on the verge of getting big. The foundation is laid. If we had a nice boost to push us over the wall, that would be so clutch right now.

Tim King: Thanks Christian!

I understand, that Tim's decision to voluntarily return to Afghaistan,is based on the dire financial straits to keep Salem-News.com alive - your life's work. Only someone who has been, and is in similar circumstance, can only imagine the emotional impact it has, not only from a business point of view, but from your very personal home and family life. I think, all of those who are familiar with Salem-News.com share my best wishes for both of you, and that your
sacrifice will end up being a new beginning for Salem-News.com Love you both

Tim King: We love you too Erna, thank you so much and I know few people understand more than you dear friend.

I can only imagine the scum people who harass your advertisers in order to harm your progress.

Tim King: Yes and we have people trying to take us to court again for stories that are absolutely true and that is over government officials failing to respond to domestic sex abuse.  Seems they never thought anyone would publish the story.  There are many challenges and those who undermine our efforts to gain ad revenue are the worst and lowest, you could not be more right.  One party has contacted our advertisers over our revealing that children in Fallujah and Gaza have signs of radioactivity that exceed even what depleted uranium (DU) leaves, this is all based on scientific data.  The one who tore us up over those stories is a DoD employee at Livermore in California, the nuclear facility.  They have no remorse and no bounds.  Thanks!
