(TILLAMOOK, Ore.) - Oregon State Police say three pounds of marijuana were seized during a traffic stop last Thursday. Three Vancouver-area were arrested as well on drug-related charges, following the traffic stop on Highway 6 about eight miles east of Tillamook when over 3 pounds of marijuana was discovered in their vehicle.

OSP Spokesman Lt. Greg Hastings, says the news of this arrest was delayed because police needed to attain a search warrant and conduct follow up investigation, and to ensure the release of this did not conflict with any other agency investigations.

"This is a common approach by our department in drug investigations such as this," he added.

Hastings says that on September 20th at approximately 6:15 PM, OSP Senior Trooper Michelle Brewer and Recruit Leland Farrar observed a Jeep Cherokee westbound on Highway 6 near milepost 8 traveling at 70 mph in a 55 mph speed zone.

As the OSP patrol car was turning around to stop the vehicle, Hastings says it was seen turning up a nearby driveway and stopping.

The two OSP officers contacted the driver, 20-year old Alfredo Orosco-Garcia of Vancouver, Washington, and two passengers identified as 37-year old Jose Torres-Barajas and 19-year old Gerarde Rodriguez-Cruz, both also from Vancouver.

"Noting an obvious odor of marijuana the officers requested and received consent to search the vehicle," Hastings said.

"They subsequently found over 3 pounds of packaged marijuana inside an ice chest with an estimated value of $5,000. The officers also spotted possible secret compartment areas, but after seizing the vehicle and obtaining a search warrant they discovered the compartments were empty."

All three individuals were taken into custody and lodged at the Tillamook County Jail for Unlawful Manufacturing,(growing) Possession and Delivery of Marijuana. Torres-Barajas was also charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Cocaine, after police say he was found in possession of a small amount of cocaine.
