Train Crashes East of Baker City

No injuries were reported in connection with the derailment.

(BAKER CITY, Ore.) - Derailed train cars Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the LaGrande Area Command were part of a multi agency response to a train derailment that resulted in the closure of I-84 between Baker City and Ontario Friday afternoon.

Numerous cars from the westbound train derailed in close proximity to I-84 near milepost 335. The location of the derailment is approximately 30 miles east of Baker City, Oregon.

Two Killed, Several Hurt in Crash on I-84 West of Baker City

Five passengers from the crash are still in Intensive Care.

(BAKER CITY) - Fatal crash Oregon State Police troopers are continuing the investigating a single vehicle double fatal rollover crash Thursday morning on Interstate 84 about five miles west of Baker City.

Lieutenant Gregg Hastings with OSP, says passengers were seriously injured in the crash as well in the crash that happened Thursday at approximately 5:20 a.m.

Oregon Wildlife Officials Kill Two Wolves Tied to Chronic Livestock Losses

A rancher was given a permit to kill the wolves if they attack his livestock again.

(BAKER CITY, Ore.) - Wolves caught in the act Two problem wolves involved in five separate incidents of livestock depredation in the Keating Valley area were killed in Baker County this morning by USDA Wildlife Services.

Two Die in Crash Northwest of Baker City‏

The highway was closed for over 5 hours while troopers and an OSP crash reconstructionist completed the scene investigation.

(BAKER CITY, Ore.) - Police say a motorcycle rider and a passenger in a car died Saturday afternoon when the two vehicles collided on Highway 30 about five miles northwest of Baker City.

The crash was reported at about 4:48 PM, police said. The Baker County Sheriff's Office, Oregon State Police and Baker Fire Department responded to the crash on Highway 30 near milepost 44.

The preliminary investigation appears to indicate that a 1997 Subaru Impreza with 3 passengers, driven by 48-year old Katherine Knox of Haines, Oregon, was traveling westbound on Highway 30 when it veered across the road into the eastbound lanes where a group of 3 motorcycles were traveling. One of the motorcycles, a 2007 Honda operated by 47-year old Timothy Hunt of Baker City, collided with the right side of the car as it crossed into the eastbound lane.

24-year old Jessica A. Ellis wasn't just a soldier; she was a medic. Her job was keeping people alive in combat and reports indicate that she did it time and time again with valor. She died from injuries resulting from a blast from an improvised explosive device, or I.E.D., that struck her vehicle in Baghdad, Iraq.

Oregon Man Killed When Motorcycle Strikes Cow

(BAKER CITY, Ore. ) - fatal crash image A Milwaukie, Oregon-area man was killed and his wife injured Monday night after the motorcycle collided with a Black Angus cow on Highway 7 about 35 miles southwest of Baker City.

Preliminary investigation indicates a 2006 1200cc BMW motorcycle operated by 53-year-old Leigh Spurlock, from Milwaukie, and his passenger/wife, 48-year-old Donna Spurlock, were traveling south on Highway 7 near milepost 13 when it struck a Black Angus cow that was in the roadway.

Amphibian Airplane Makes Emergency Landing on Interstate 84 East of Baker City

The plane with a 48-foot wingspan made a safe landing on the freeway due to bad weather.

(BAKER CITY) - Plane on freeway A 34-year Oregon State Police veteran thought he had seen it all until he saw an amphibian-style airplane in his rearview mirror after it made an emergency landing Sunday morning on Interstate 84 about fifteen miles east of Baker City due to poor weather conditions.

The plane was able to take off about three hours later with the assistance of Oregon State Police troopers and Oregon Department of Transportation personnel.

High Speed Traffic Stop Near Baker City Leads to Arrest of Man Wanted out of Marion County

(BAKER CITY) - mugshot: Jose Prater A Boise, Idaho man wanted out of Marion County was arrested near Baker City Sunday afternoon after an Oregon State Police trooper stopped him for driving over 120 mph on Interstate 84.

OSP Senior Trooper Jeff Spencer says he stopped the 2002 Honda Accord two-door at 5:45 PM Sunday for traveling 121 mph westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 304.

While in contact with the driver, identified as 22-year old Jose Manuel Prater of Boise, Idaho, Spencer determined he was wanted out of Marion County on a felony warrant for 2 counts of Delivery of a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
