Depoe Bay Shark Confirmed as Great White (PHOTOS)

Under State and Federal law, it is unlawful to take or possess Great White Sharks.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Great White Depoe Bay Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division is continuing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the possession of what is confirmed as a 12-foot Great White Shark in the Depoe Bay area this weekend.

OSP Sergeant Todd Thompson says an OSP Fish & Wildlife Division trooper was working on the Depoe Bay docks August 8, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. when a shark was brought in by a recreational tuna boat.

Body Discovered by Urchin Divers in Depoe Bay Identified

The body turned out to be that of a local man who probably took his own life.

(DEPOE BAY, Ore.) - The body of a man found last Saturday in the Pacific Ocean south of Rocky Creek State Scenic Viewpoint in Lincoln County has been positively identified as 54-year old Larry Allen Mott of Depoe Bay.

Mr. Mott was originally reported to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office as a missing/endangered person on May 28th as he had apparent suicidal tendencies. There are no signs of foul play, investigators with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office report.

Body Recovered From Ocean Near Depoe Bay

The body was found in 40 feet of water 1/2 mile south of Rocky Creek State Scenic Viewpoint in Lincoln County.

(DEPOE BAY, Ore.) - Area where the body was found near Depoe Bay, Oregon 5-31-08: Oregon State Police and the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office are investigating the discovery of a body Saturday afternoon in the Pacific Ocean south of Depoe Bay.

They say at this point that there are are no signs of foul play and the body has not been positively identified, according to Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division Sergeant Todd Thompson.

Salem Man Remains Missing After Falling From Cliff Near Depoe Bay

The man has not been seen since falling Friday evening at Rocky Creek State Park.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Rocky Creek State Park Wayside in Depoe Bay, Oregon State police say a Salem-area man remains missing after reportedly falling off a cliff Friday evening at Rocky Creek State Park wayside about two miles south of Depoe Bay while visiting the area with his wife and friend.

Lieutenant Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police says that around 6:00 PM Friday, 43-year old Brian Albert Wells of Salem reportedly stopped at Rocky Creek State Park wayside with his 54-year old wife and a 62-year old male friend to take pictures.

Salem Man Missing After Falling from Oregon Coast Cliff

The man fell about 60 feet while taking photographs.

(DEPOE BAY, Ore.) - Photograph of Brian Albert Wells A Salem-area man is missing after he reportedly fell off a cliff at Rocky Creek State Park wayside about two miles south of Depoe Bay while visiting the area with his wife and friend Friday evening. An area search continued today with the help of US Coast Guard and local agencies.

Monmouth Woman`s Body Found on Beach Near Lincoln City

The victim's name and age will be released Sunday.

(GLENEDEN BEACH, Ore.) - Depoe Bay Fire $ Rescue A Monmouth-area woman was found dead Saturday morning by a person walking on the beach of Salishan Spit, south of Lincoln City.

Police say there is no indication of foul play and the investigation will be continued by Oregon State Police with the assistance of the Lincoln County Medical Examiner's Office.

Salem Man Cited in Crash Involving Armored Truck on Oregon Coast

OSP says excessive speed on wet pavement were contributing factors in the crash.

(DEPOE BAY, Ore. ) - armored truck crash One person was injured and a driver cited for Careless Driving after losing control of the armored truck he was driving and crashing down an embankment Thursday morning on Highway 101 about two miles south of Depoe Bay.

At approximately 8:30 AM, an Oregon Armored Service truck driven by 24-year-old Jose Lorenzana, from Salem, was southbound on Highway 101 near milepost 130 negotiating a curve when it lost control, drove across the northbound lane and went about 50 feet down a steep embankment.

Searchers Find Body of One Missing Woman, Another Remains Missing

The two women were both last seen wearing light blue hooded rain jackets and gray rain pants.

(LINCOLN CITY) - Lincoln County patrol car A search resumed this morning for two women who were reported missing Tuesday after they went for a walk around Glenn Avenue in Gleneden Beach and never returned.

The Depoe Bay Fire Department says they have recovered the body of one of the women.

The search began yesterday for 78-year-old Elma Benefiel, of Beaverton, and her daughter-in-law 61-year-old Jan Benefiel, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, but the women were not found. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Coast Guard and others searched until midnight.

More information will be released once the family has been notified.

Fisherman Dies Off Oregon Coast Thursday

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

(DEPOE BAY) - Coast Guard HH-65 helicopter The Coast Guard airlifted a 40-year-old male from a charter fishing vessel three miles north of Depoe Bay, Thursday.

The master of the 40-foot vessel Mr. Max contacted the Coast Guard by VHF-FM radio at 11:40 AM requesting assistance for an unconscious man.

An HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Facility Newport and a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Depoe Bay were launched minutes later to aid the victim.

Three Men Rescued After Their Boat Sinks

In recent years the federal government mandated the use of emergency beacons that allow the crews to be rescued.

(DEPOE BAY) - coast guard helicopter and rescued party The U.S. Coast Guard saved three men after their 68-foot fishing boat sunk 70 miles west of Depoe Bay Tuesday night.

The Coast Guard received a call on VHF channel 16 from the operator of the fishing vessel Wild Mary at 11:18 PM, reporting his vessel was taking on water.

An HH-65 helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station North Bend, an HH-65 helicopter from Coast Guard Air Facility Newport, and a 47-foot motor lifeboat from Coast Guard Station Depoe Bay, were launched minutes later to assist.

Coast Guard crews located the men in a liferaft and hoisted them to a helicopter at 12:25 a.m. The men were then safely transported to shore.

The cause of the sinking is under investigation.
