Three Injured When Car Hits House

Today, at about 12:30 a.m., 19-year-old Stephanie Curtiss of Rock Creek was driving west on NW West Union Road, just west of NW Cornelius Pass Road. She lost control of the car as she entered a curve with a suggested speed (yellow speed sign) of 35 m.p.h.

Hillsboro Police and WCSO Negotiators Safely end Barricaded Person Call

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) -
This morning at 4:20 am, members of the Hillsboro Police Department, Washington County Sheriff's Office, Beaverton Police, and FBI successfully took a distraught Hillsboro man into custody after five hour negotiations.
Officers received a welfare check call regarding Gary Eugene Overby, age 40, 2300 block of NW 188th Ave in Hillsboro on last night at 1130 pm. This call was due to concern over his mental state and in response to messages he had sent his ex-wife earlier in the day stating that he was suicidal.

Hillsboro Police Arrest Man for Mistreatment

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) -
Yesterday at 7:45 PM, Hillsboro police responded to a report of an 11 year old boy discovered standing near Baseline Rd and Brookwood Rd in his underwear. He was wet and cold and was discovered by a woman passerby who offered assistance and called police.

One-Alarm Hillsboro House Fire Leaves Three Homeless

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) -
Three people were left homeless Saturday evening following a one-alarm house fire that damaged their two-story home on NW Glencoe Road in Hillsboro.
Hillsboro Fire & Rescue firefighters were summoned to the blaze at 4:51 pm after the occupants smelled smoke and looked outside to see a passerby pointing to flames on the rear of the house.

Portland-Area Firefighters Train with Burning Jet Fuel

(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
Portland Fire and Rescue, Port of Portland and Hillsboro firefighters are taking part in a joint training this week to help prepare them for fighting fuel fires in case of an aircraft related accident at the Port of Portland airport.
"This type of training is conducted to teach firefighters how to safely extinguish fuel fires," said Craig Callicotte, the Fire Chief of Port of Portland. "The training also teaches them how to deal with the large amounts of fuel on the ground that will occur during an aircraft crash."

Hillsboro to hold public hearing on urban livestock
Public testimony will be taken at the meeting prior to council deliberations

The Hillsboro City Council will hold a public hearing on October 5th to receive input on proposed policy options for keeping certain kinds of livestock, chickens, and other animals within the city limits. The City Council meeting begins at 7:00 pm in the Hillsboro Civic Center, 150 E. Main.

Helicopter Crashes at Hillsboro Airport

At this time the cause of the crash is unknown
(Hillsboro, Ore.) -
At 6:03 Hillsboro Fire and Rescue was dispatched by Washington County 9-1-1 to the Hillsboro Airport with the report of a helicopter down. Upon arrival the crew of Engine 5 found a helicopter on the ground near runway 30.
The pilot, who was the only occupant of the helicopter, had exited the downed aircraft before the engine arrived.

Hillsboro Police Exchange Gunfire With Suspect During Welfare Check

The officer and the suspect both survived the shooting.
(HILLSBORO, Ore.) -
Hillsboro police and Washington County Sheriff's deputies were involved in a shooting today around 4:50 p.m., while responding to a welfare check of a distraught man in the 600 block of north 1st Avenue in Hillsboro.
Police say the subject's therapist called police asking for the check because of his recent agitated mental state.

Somber Homecoming for NW Soldier Killed in Afghanistan (VIDEO)

Sgt. Elijah J Rao was killed by an improvised explosive device, or roadside bomb, in Afghanistan.
(HILLSBORO, Ore.) -
A somber and reverent group was on hand for the arrival of a local soldier December 12, 2009, who was killed fighting in Afghanistan. The family of Elijah J Rao says he will be sorely missed.
We first reported on this loss the day after it happened when the family released word of Elijah's death. They said at the time it is the last knock a family ever wants to hear at their door.
