Lyons City Official Charged with Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor

Investigators say a party the woman held in August led to the rape of a 13-year old girl.

(LYONS, Ore.) - The Administrator for the City of Lyons has been arrested for furnishing alcohol to minors, in an incident that allegedly involved the forcible rape of a 13-year old girl.

Linn County's Sheriff Tim Mueller, says his deputies are investigating the incident involving 49-year old Mary Martha Mitchell.

"The sheriff’s office recently became aware of this upon receiving an anonymous letter from a concerned citizen. The letter stated in August of 2008, Mitchell held a party at her residence where she allowed several teenagers to drink alcohol and smoke marijuana," Mueller said.

Lyons Man Dies in Single Car Crash Near Mill City

Police say the driver was not wearing his seat belt properly; only using his shoulder harness and not the lap belt.

(LYONS, Ore.) - Deputies in Linn County responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash on Mill City Drive, near Mill City today at 10:41 PM.

Sheriff Tim Mueller reports that the driver of the vehicle, 23-year old Matthew Douglas Rowe of Lyons, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant.

Police Believe Man Drowned While Trying to Rescue Another Person

Active search continues for a possible drowning victim on the Little North Fork River.

(LYONS, Ore.) - Marion County deputies and Stayton Fire District crews responded to the Salmon Falls park located on the Little North Fork River in Lyons, Oregon, on a report of a possible drowning victim. Deputies and fire officials arrived on the scene and began a visual search of the river.

Commander Jason Myers with the Marion County Sheriff's Office, says deputies and fire officials arrived on the scene around 4:45 PM and began a visual search of the river.

Driver and Passenger of Car Identified in Fatal School Bus Crash

The driver is identified as 25-year old Justin J. Gandy of Lyons. Police say his driving privileges were suspended at the time of the crash.

(LYONS) - Police investigators say two men died Thursday morning after losing control of their car and crashing into a school bus on Highway 226 south of Lyons. The bus driver and two small children were not injured.

Around 11:30 AM Thursday, a northbound 1989 Nissan Sentra four-door lost control while negotiating a shaded, icy curve.

Helicopter Lifting Christmas Trees Crashes

The pilot was the only person on board, and came through without injury

(LYONS) - The Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a helicopter crash outside of Lyons on Wednesday.

The pilot, 41-year old Daniel Arenson, from North Bend, Oregon was hoisting trees for Sublimity Tree Farms at 10214 Wagner Rd SE, Lyons. The helicopter he was operating was a 1989 McDonald Douglas Model MD 369E.

Officials say that Arenson was hoisting a bundle of Christmas trees when the rope broke that was secured to the sling. The rope then rebounded into the rotor blades of the helicopter, causing the motor to stall.
