Sublimity Harvest Festival to Celebrate 40 Years

September Festival is “40 and Pullin’ Strong”

(SUBLIMITY, OR) - Sublimity Harvest Festival The second weekend in September will mark the 40th annual Sublimity Harvest Festival, a destination family event that started as a local truck and tractor pull competition and has evolved into a three-day outdoor weekend festival that includes monster trucks, multi-engine and modified tractors, ATVs, horses, modified trucks and farm tractors.

The Festival opens on Friday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. with a Pit Party to meet the drivers and their vehicles. The event is held on the Harvest Festival Grounds at Highway 22 and Golf Club Road in Sublimity.

Long Time Sublimity Volunteer Firefighter Dies

(Sublimity, Oregon) - Jerry Heater It is with deep regret the Sublimity Fire District announces the death of long time volunteer firefighter Jerry Heater. Jerry passed away yesterday morning at Salem Hospital as a result of a heart attack.

Jerry just recently started his 52nd year in the fire service. Jerry started with Corvallis Fire and worked for Jefferson Fire District and Tualatin Rural Fire District (now Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue).

Sublimity Teacher Cleared on Sex Abuse Charges

John Lulay was a middle school teacher in Sublimity from 1976 to 2003, then became a substitute teacher in the North Santiam School District.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Marion County Oregon court A retired Sublimity, Oregon teacher, 59-year old John Lulay, was found innocent of sexual abuse last week. Judge Lynn Ashcroft handed the verdict down Thursday, after criticizing members of both families behind the charges.

The judge reportedly said that the child was put in the middle and that family members attempted to tell her what to say, adding that the family did not put her needs first.

The Statesman Journal reported that during the three-day trial that did not involve a jury, Lulay's defense lawyer accused the child's mother of coaching her.

Retired Teacher Arraigned on Sex Abuse Charges

Both police and the prosecutors are asking any member of the public with additional information on the case to contact Detective Colleen Arient at the Stayton Police Department.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Overview of the Marion County Court Annex where John Lulay was arraigned on Sex Abuse charges. A retired teacher has been arraigned on two counts of Sex Abuse in the first degree in Salem, according to a statement released jointly today by the Marion County District Attorney's Office and Stayton Police.

They say retired Sublimity school teacher John Lulay was arraigned on the two counts of Sex Abuse in the first degree.

Experimental Plane Crash Kills 3 in Linn County

The plane crashed in a harvested corn field about 1/4 mile from the nearest residence. No one on the ground was injured.

Sex Offense Suspect Arrested by Stayton Police in Sublimity

The suspect, John Alvin Taylor, was arrested at his residence without incident.

(SUBLIMITY, Ore.) - Oregon Sex Abuse suspect John Alvin Taylor A man suspected of sexual abuse at a retirement center in Sublimity was been arrested by Stayton Police today, after an investigation that began on September 30th, 2005.

Stayton Police say that at that time, they received a report of a possible sexual offense which is alleged to have occurred at Marian Estates, located at 390 Church Street in Sublimity.

The reported victim was a 70 year old resident. The reported suspect was an employee of Marian Estates.

Elderly Man Shoots Wife, Then Himself at Assisted Living Facility

(Sublimity) - default logo homicide invesigation Stayton Police say an elderly husband and wife were found dead Monday morning after an apparent murder-suicide at Marian Estates Assisted Living Facility where they resided.

Police say employees found the couple around 6:30 AM in the Elliott, the assisted living portion of Marian Estates.

Investigators say 81-year-old Howard Naue, and his wife, 83-year-old Florence Naue, both died of gunshot wounds.
