West Salem, McKay Students to Participate in Annual Salmon Bowl Competition

At stake for the 80 competing teens is a trip for the winning team to the national competition in Monterey, Calif., in May.

(Corvallis) - Sixteen Oregon high school teams will test their knowledge of marine sciences on Saturday, March 4th, during the annual Salmon Bowl competition at OSU.

Citizen Tip Leads to Arrest in Road Rage Assault

Media reports brought quick tips to police who took the alleged assailant into custody

(Corvallis) - A tip from a citizen led to an arrest in a serious `road rage` assault that happened Wednesday.

Lt. Ron Noble with Corvallis Police says the incident started on Highway 20 between Albany and Corvallis.

Charles Lane is accused of beating a man after heated contact between the two drivers on the roadway. A woman and a small child, according to Noble, accompanied Lane.

Investigators say that Lane began assaulting the other driver after he stopped at his job site in the 1600 block of NW Garryanna Street. The woman passenger is alleged to have exited the vehicle, a late-model black Explorer, so she could watch.

Corvallis Police Seeking Information on Violent Road Rage Attack

The suspect vehicle is described as a dark blue (possibly black) newer-model Ford Expedition or Explorer with a temporary registration in the back window. The temporary registration may start with "A17"

(Corvallis) - The Corvallis Police Department is seeking information about a serious assault that occurred in the 1600 block of NW Garryanna Street on Wednesday, February 22nd at about 12:20 PM.

OSU High School Online Program Receives Accreditation

The program has been offered through OSU E-campus for the past three years, and met standards for accreditation on its first review.

(Corvallis) - The K-12 Online program at Oregon State University, which provides high school and middle school curriculum via the Web, has received accreditation as a distance education school by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools.

The approval followed a review by Richard Darst, executive secretary for NAAS of Oregon, and Wilbur Starr, principal of Santiam Christian High School in Corvallis.

Accreditation requires approval on such issues as employment of teachers with "highly qualified" licensure, provision of sound curriculum, and the availability of student services.

FBI Drops Courtney as Suspect in Two Oregon Murder Cases

(Portland- AP) - The F-B-I says it has eliminated the man charged in the murder of Brooke Wilberger -- as a suspect in two of three other cases it was investigating.

Joel Courtney is charged in the kidnapping and murder of the 19-year-old.

Courtney is being held in Albuquerque on unrelated charges involving the rape of a student there. He was indicted in the Wilberger case last July.

Wyden Holding Town Hall Meetings in Albany and Corvallis on Wednesday

(Albany) - Oregon Senator Ron Wyden, (D-Ore.), will be holding public town hall meetings in Albany and Corvallis on Wednesday.

The town hall meetings will be held at the following locations:

Albany: 3:00 PM, South Albany High School Theater, 3705 Columbus St. S.E.

Corvallis: 7:00 PM, Benton County Commissioners` meeting room, 408 S.W. Monroe Ave.
