New Report Documents Dramatic Reductions in Youth Detention

Reformers Gather in DC to Review Progress.

(BALTIMORE, Md.) - American family A new report released by the Annie C. Casey Foundation shows that two decades of juvenile justice reform have reduced youth detention, improved public safety and saved taxpayers millions of dollars.

The report, Two Decades of JDAI: From Demonstration Project to National Standard, documents the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative’s (JDAI) progress both in reforming juvenile detention practices nationwide and also in contributing to the larger movement for more comprehensive reforms in juvenile justice.

Young Child From Canada Drowns in Molalla River

Officials consider the incident a tragic accident.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - Drowning incident The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office had the sad duty of locating a small child Monday at Feyer Park, in Molalla. Sheriff's Office Spokesman, Detective Jim Strovink, says they learned by Monday evening that the child had died.

The child is identified as 5-year old Markian Barsukoff of Alberta, Canada. "Markian was here in Oregon, visiting with his family to attend a wedding and family reunion," Strovink said.

Adventist Medical Center Opens First Human Milk Donor Depot in Portland, Oregon

World Breastfeeding Week is August 1st - 7th.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Breast feeding Today, in conjunction with World Breastfeeding Week, Adventist Medical Center opened the first human milk donor depot for Portland, Oregon.

The depot, which is only the second in the Pacific Northwest, encourages and collects human milk donations for medically fragile infants and children.

Summer Vacations are for Parents, Too

In summer, the parenting duties are less, but with a teen in the house, my job is to be vigilant about his whereabouts, his friends, what he’s watching on all his screens, and generally try to keep him alive.

(AGOURA, Calif.) - Chevy Chase in a scene from the movie Vcation Remembering Chevy Chase in those summer vacation movies reminds me of the fact that most so-called “family vacations” are, at best, vacations for the kids and torture for the parents.

I’m generalizing, of course, but most generalizations as well as clichés, have a strong basis in truth.

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - Rafts in Clackamas River inciden during which husband saved wife's life 7-27-09 Tragedy was averted Sunday by the persistent and heroic efforts of a husband who dislodged his submerged wife from the ominous grip of the Clackamas River, and revived her lifeless body by administering life-saving CPR.

The Clackamas County Dispatch received a report Sunday of a female subject that was initially submerged in the water, retrieved from the water and then revived.

Keizer Youth Receives Keizer`s Top Life Saving Award (PHOTOS)

The Bob Wickman Lifesaving award is the highest honor the Keizer Fire District can bestow on a person for their efforts to save another's life.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - KFD Board President Greg Ego presesnts Wickman Award to B.J. Delagado He may only be 14-years old, but B.J. Delgado is responsible for his family being alive. B.J. was presented the Bob Wickman Lifesaving Award by the Keizer Fire District this week.

The presentation was made at the beginning of the July meeting of the Keizer Fire District Board of Directors.
