Salem Police plan Kick Off party for National Night Out

They want to encourage citizen participation.

(SALEM, Ore.) - National Night Out The Salem Police Department Crime Prevention Unit announces its third annual National Night Out Kick-Off Party to be held Tuesday, July 21, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall atrium just outside the police department.

Salem residents are invited to attend to help boost community enthusiasm about hosting a neighborhood block party for National Night Out, which is Tuesday, August 4th 2009.

What is important to me, now, are my relationships, my health, and doing something worthwhile with my life. Yet I can’t help but remember those feelings of envy back on the studio lot when I saw the big shots, their fancy cars, and their success.

Oregon Tops National Homelessness Tally (AUDIO)

The AHAR report on homelessness is compiled for Congress by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

(SALEM, Ore. ONS) - Homeless man in Salem, Oregon The number of homeless people in Oregon has climbed for the third straight year. A new national report compiled for Congress by the Department of Housing and Urban Development says about one-half of one percent of Oregonians are homeless.

That may not sound like much, but it's a higher percentage than in any other state, compared to its total population, and it means 17,000 people statewide are living in shelters or on the street.

An Oregon woman launches a petition drive over what she calls injustice and danger, in Oregon's child protective services agency.

(ROSEBURG, Ore.) - Small child in Oregon state foster care Child Protective Services is supposed to help our nations’ children, to protect them from harmful situations. How can an agency that began with such good intentions turn into yet another device to fulfill the monetary greed of its hired extortionists?

Unfortunate as it is, Child Welfare is a system that our nation really does need. In my opinion it is in dire need of great repair. I know, because I am currently involved in one of their charades that they like to call an investigation.

Canby Family Roused From Sleep by Raging Fire

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

(CANBY, Ore.) - Fire in Canby, Oregon 7-8-09 A Canby family awoke to the sound of a raging fire and a smoke alarm this morning just after midnight.

"They looked out the window to find there storage shed fully involved in fire no more then a few feet from there home," Deputy Fire Marshal Todd Gary said.

Singin` the Blues for Oregon Hunger Relief (AUDIO)

Volunteers collected about 91,000 pounds of food last year; this year's goal is 100,000 pounds.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ONS) - Waterfront Blues Fest Portland, Oregon Where else can you get a full day of live music for ten bucks and a couple of cans of food? It's Waterfront Blues Festival weekend in Portland, starting on Thursday.

More than 120,000 people attend the four-day event - not all at once, of course! The musicians and fans are international, but the donations they generate stay in Oregon to restock Oregon Food Bank Network locations around the state. Musician Patrick Lamb and his blues band will be performing on Sunday. His band is one of more than 100 acts scheduled to perform.
