Oregon National Guard soldiers currently deployed to Iraq may be in a war, but they're also in one of the world's oldest and most fascinating places. Master Sgt. Thomas Hovie of Salem, Oregon is a non-stop video photographer and editor.
In this report showing soldiers of the 2-162 Infantry, Oregon National Guard, touring the ruins of the ancient city of Babylon and the palace of Saddam Hussein, Tom also doubles as reporter.

Mario Benfield is the past commander of the only American Legion post whose membership is predominantly gay and lesbian.
Benfield and other vets are sick of Pres. Clinton's 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' policy banning gays from military service if they are honest about their lives.

(BAGHDAD/SALEM) -
Oregon has some 3500 National Guard soldiers with the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team, currently deployed in Iraq. They are under the command of Colonel Dan Hokanson.
The soldiers have performed a wide variety of roles in Iraq. Specialist Cory Grogan has been snapping photos of the various missions these soldiers have performed.
Oregon Army National Guard Aviation unit returns home after a year-long deployment to Iraq
(SALEM, Ore.) -
120 members of the Oregon Army National Guard's C/7-158 Aviation unit were officially welcomed home from a year-long deployment to Iraq during a ceremony in Salem, Ore., Jan. 25.
