She’s run an independent trucking business, and battled cancer. But there is something that harkens Tamez back to the land.

(LAS CRUCES, N.M.) - Ciudad, Juarez Approaching Ciudad Juarez from the south, passengers on a commercial bus got a hard look at the world’s most violent city.

Halted at a checkpoint outside the city limits, the bus was inspected by Mexican soldiers before being allowed to proceed.

Violence Threatens Border Elections

More violence over the weekend.

(CIUDAD, Juarez) - Josefina Reyes' assassination is not forgotten or overlooked by activists in Mexico who are tired of the endless cycle of death and violence. Upcoming state and local elections could become another casualty of the violence ravaging a rural region just south of Ciudad Juarez.

Less than three months before voters go to the polls to elect a new governor and other officials, no one has registered for the mayoral candidacies of the conservative National Action Party (PAN) in the municipalities of Praxedis G. Guerrero and Guadalupe Distrito Bravos.

Baja California Rocked by 7.2 Magnitude Earthquake

(MEXICALI) - Quake struck just south of the U.S. - Mexico Border A powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Baja California, Mexico Sunday near the city of Mexicali. At least one person died.

The earthquake struck at 10:40 p.m. GMT at a depth of 20.1 miles (32.3 kilometers) and 16 miles (26 kilometers) south southwest of Guadalupe Victoria, Baja California Norte, Mexico.

New Mexico`s Governor Orders National Guard to Patrol Mexican Border

The move follows the shooting death of an Arizona rancher.

(SANTA FE) - New Mexico National Guard Governor Bill Richardson, after meeting with top law enforcement officials this morning, ordered the National Guard to patrol the border with Mexico and ensure the safety of New Mexico citizens.

Governor Richardson is also urging the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense to increase the federal law enforcement presence at the border and make that presence permanent.
