Backyard Burning Ban Takes Effect Next Week in Three Oregon Counties

The restrictions will extend through October 15 or later, depending on fire danger.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - A ban on all open and backyard burning will go into effect on June 16 in Linn, Benton and Marion counties.

The ban aims to reduce the incidence of open debris burns escaping control.

Salem-Keizer School Bus Drivers Take Home Driving Trophies

Drivers compete in three categories of buses: general transit, general conventional, and mini-bus.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - The 40th Annual Oregon Pupil Transportation Association State Safety Exercise was held at Summit High School in Bend on May 31.

There were a total of 71 participants in the all-day event. Salem-Keizer Public Schools had six contestants qualify to participate and 11 personnel serve as judges of the event.

On D-Day; Thousands Turn Out for New Oregon WWII Memoral

3,771 names line the stones walls of the memorial.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - On the 70th anniversary of D-Day, the Allied invasion of Europe, nearly 2,000 Oregon veterans and their families gathered at Willson Park in Salem for the dedication of the Oregon WWII Memorial.

According to the Historical Outreach Foundation, of the 152,000 Oregonians who served during WWII, an estimated 20,000 are still alive today and 3,772 are recorded as having paid the ultimate sacrifice during the war.

The two black granite walls bear the names of the more than 3,770 Oregonians who gave their lives while serving in combat.

Police Chase Ends With One of Salem`s Most Wanted Behind Bars

Two female passengers, age 30 and 24, were not lodged in jail.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon State Police, with the assistance of Salem Police Department and Marion County Sheriff's Office, arrested a 33-year old man Thursday night who was listed as one of SPD's most wanted following an attempt to elude.

At approximately 11:37 p.m. Thursday night, an OSP trooper witnessed traffic violations by the driver of a Chrysler 3000 displaying Oregon license plates and attempted to stop the vehicle southbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 262.

Gipson will face charges including felony assault and menacing.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Diamond Damien Gipson The man who held police and a SWAT team at bay for more than 5 hours this week, and then went on the run, has turned himself into authorities.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office says they were called by police in Springfield, Oregon were 20-year-old, Sir Diamond Damien Gipson turned himself in.
