Evil Dead, the Musical is a Bloody Great Show

The only musical in the world with a Splatter Zone!

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Evil Dead the Musical The Pacific Northwest has plenty of mysterious legends synonymous with the area, some hauntings, even aliens. Still, it was Evil Dead, the Musical that brought the Salem-News.com staff to Portland one recent summer evening.

The two hour rock musical stage play is a tribute to the “Evil Dead” film trilogy, which has developed a strong cult following since the first film’s release in 1981.

Wolves Lurk in Salem

Unusual sights in the capitol city.

(SALEM) - Wolf cut-outs at the Oregon State Penitentiary There are wolves prowling around the Department of Corrections grounds off Center Street. I timidly slid past one that was crouching near a fir tree. Another bared his teeth, staring at me menacingly. It made me nervous.

There are gray wolves, brown wolves, and painted striped wolves. They’re about a half an inch thick and stiff as, well, a board.

The Prayer Vigil for Syria will be held Wednesday evening, August 1, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. outdoors at Salem Peace Plaza, located between City Hall and the Public Library.

(SALEM) - Syria flag A group of local citizens, deeply concerned about the strife that has been occurring in Syria for more than a year, invites our community together to pray for the people of Syria.

Income Inequality in Oregon Rises Again

"Income inequality destabilizes our economy" - OCPP policy analyst Jason Gettel

(SILVERTON, OR) - Poverty, Oregon Income inequality in Oregon is on the rise once again, according to new analysis of state income data by the Oregon Center for Public Policy.

The first full year of economic recovery, 2010, saw the average income of the wealthiest 1 percent of Oregon taxpayers jump by about $44,000 to reach a total of about $689,000.
