Evil Dead, the Musical is a Bloody Great Show

The only musical in the world with a Splatter Zone!

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The Pacific Northwest has plenty of mysterious legends synonymous with the area, some hauntings, even aliens. Still, it was Evil Dead, the Musical that brought the Salem-News.com staff to Portland one recent summer evening.

The two hour rock musical stage play is a tribute to the “Evil Dead” film trilogy, which has developed a strong cult following since the first film’s release in 1981.

Wolves Lurk in Salem

(SALEM) - There are wolves prowling around the Department of Corrections grounds off Center Street. I timidly slid past one that was crouching near a fir tree. Another bared his teeth, staring at me menacingly. It made me nervous.

There are gray wolves, brown wolves, and painted striped wolves. They’re about a half an inch thick and stiff as, well, a board.

Salem Clergy, Peace Groups Plan Syria Prayer Vigil

The Prayer Vigil for Syria will be held Wednesday evening, August 1, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. outdoors at Salem Peace Plaza, located between City Hall and the Public Library.

(SALEM) - A group of local citizens, deeply concerned about the strife that has been occurring in Syria for more than a year, invites our community together to pray for the people of Syria.

We will pay homage to the thousands of innocent persons that have been slain, and we will pray for a just, non-violent solution to the conflict.

Kim Thatcher To Receive Taxpayer Award

Income Inequality in Oregon Rises Again

(SILVERTON, OR) - Income inequality in Oregon is on the rise once again, according to new analysis of state income data by the Oregon Center for Public Policy.

The first full year of economic recovery, 2010, saw the average income of the wealthiest 1 percent of Oregon taxpayers jump by about $44,000 to reach a total of about $689,000.

No Injuries in Salem Apartment Fire

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental in nature, related to cigarette disposal.

(SALEM) - Fire crews in Salem were dispatched to the 100 block of Stoneway Drive NW just before 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, on a report of smoke in an apartment complex.

Possible Explosive `Device` has Large Area in Marion County Blocked Off

We understand the device was located in an area of farmland.

(SALEM) - Officials are on the scene of a possible explosive device near the rural community of Scotts Mills, Oregon. Salem-News.com's Jerry Freeman is on the scene at this time.

We know the location of the device is on Hwy 213 between Mt Angel Scotts Mills Road and Wagon Road NE. The area is cordoned off and officials are turning vehicles around.
