Senate President Courtney, House Speaker Minnis Announce Wireless Plan

State Capitol to go Wi-Fi this Fall, Increasing Public Access to Legislature

(SALEM) - Acting on a recommendation from the Public Commission on the Oregon Legislature, Senate President Peter Courtney and House Speaker Karen Minnis announced the State Capitol will offer free wireless Internet access to the public beginning this fall, adding the Capitol to the growing list of public wi-fi hotspots in the state. Under this new plan:

Capitol visitors will be able to send and receive e-mail from legislators and others and access legislative and other Internet websites on their own laptop computers or other wireless devices while inside the building.

Oregon Child Support Program Now Offers Payments Through Debit Cards

The ReliaCard program is similar to the existing direct deposit program. However, ReliaCard allows participation by customers who do not have, or prefer not to use, a checking or savings account

(SALEM) - Oregon Attorney General Hardy Myers The Oregon Department of Justice, Division of Child Support has announced that the U.S. Bank ReliaCard , VISA debit card has been added as a third payment option available to child support customers throughout Oregon.

The decision follows a pilot program where users found the cards to be a safe and secure payment option.

ReliaCard is the result of a public-private partnership between U.S. Bank , the Oregon State Treasury and the Oregon Child Support Program.

Once enrolled, child support customers` receive their child support payment as an electronic deposit to their debit card accounts.

Salem Police Department Fraud Tip-of-the-Week

(Salem) - Myspace Last week, a woman in Salem became the most recent victim of an internet romance scam.
Salem Police Detective Paul Henninger says the suspect contacted the victim through the victim's personal web site with "MySpace.com."
He said the suspect represented himself as a blond hair, blue eyed model from the United States who was visiting his sick mother in Lagos, Nigeria...
