Police Investigate Armed Robbery in Corvallis

Police say the suspect displayed a revolver during the robbery.
(CORVALLIS, Ore.) -
Corvallis Police say this morning at about 1:45 a.m., officers were called out to investigate an armed robbery which occurred at DeDe's located at 1786 NW 9th Street.
The suspect is described as a white male with blue eyes, possibly in his twenties or thirties according to Corvallis Police Lieutenant Dave Henslee.

The former Corvallis Police Lieutenant says he is relieved by the recovery of Brooke's remains, calling it bittersweet news.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
McMinnville Police Chief Ron Noble was a Corvallis Police Lieutenant when Brooke Wilberger disappeared in May 2004. Her remains were recovered in recent days after a confession from her killer, Joel Courtney. He avoided a death sentence by revealing the location of her remains.
Over the five years of Salem-News.com's existence, the story of Brooke Wilberger has surfaced many times.

Information From Murder Suspect Leads to Discovery of Brooke Wilberger`s Remains

As a part of the plea agreement, the Benton County District Attorney was able to obtain information necessary to locate and recover Brooke Wilberger's remains.
(CORVALLIS, Ore.) -
On May 24, 2004, Brooke Wilberger was abducted by Joel Courtney who subsequently murdered her. Despite extensive efforts, Brooke Wilberger's remains were not recovered during the course of the criminal investigation.
Joel Courtney was charged with the Aggravated Murder of Brooke Wilberger, and the case was set for trial beginning February 2010.

Captain Jonathan M. Sassaman with the Corvallis Police Department, says they have released the recording of the initial 911 Call. The female caller who reported the Homicide has asked to not be identified.

The Corvallis Police and the Benton County Major Crimes Team was activated Sunday to investigate a suspicious death at 2120 NW Janssen Street in Corvallis.
Captain Jonathan M. Sassaman with Corvallis Police says the deceased is 78-year old Yvonne C. Perry who lived at the above address in apartment #J-1.

Police say one of the drivers who was fatigued, had sideswiped either the bridge or guardrail coming out of Corvallis prior to the head-on collision.

Police say a serious crash approximately 2 miles east of Corvallis on Highway 34, sent two people to the hospital and required the Jaws of Life for extrication.
Oregon State Police Sergeant Mark Davie says it happened this morning around 8:00 a.m. as a 1999 Toyota Corolla driven by 25-year old Matthew Alexander of Portland, was eastbound on Highway 34 near milepost 2.

Corvallis Police Department presented Jessica Taylor-Weiss with the Corvallis Police Department Medal of Valor for her courageous actions on October 7, 2006 as she successfully fought off an attempted abduction and sexual assault in the 500 block of NW 23rd Street.
The Corvallis Police Department will conduct an award ceremony at 4:00 PM on June 17, 2009 in the Corvallis Library to recognize Department members for a number of meritorious achievements, including members involved in successfully investigating this attack.

OSU Student Arrested Following Discovery of Homemade Explosive Device near Campus Festival

An Oregon State University sophomore student was arrested by Corvallis police Saturday night on campus when officers found a small homemade improvised explosive device in the man's backpack while he was in the area of a large crowd attending the Flat Tail Festival.
According to OSP Sergeant Vonn Schleicher, Saturday at 10:50 p.m., OSP Oregon State University troopers and Corvallis police officers were patrolling in the campus area monitoring an estimated crowd of approximately 600 people attending a series of live bands performing at the Flat Tail Festival on the Oregon State University campus.
