(LONDON) - grim reaper of gaza Today is Sunday and in the West it is a day of leisure. A popular activity is tending well-manicured gardens, enjoying the peace and quiet and mowing the grass.

Mowing the grass in Israeli military speak has a different connotation altogether. ‘Mowing the grass’ is a recognized Israeli military strategy as defined by Professor Efraim Inbar and Dr Eitan Shamir, both of the Begin-Sadat Center of Strategic Studies at Israel’s Bar-Ilan University.

Salem Police Recover Body of Teen from Mill Creek

(SALEM, Ore. ) - MILL CREEK Salem Oregon Salem Police have confirmed to Salem-News.com that they have recovered the body of a 16-year-old boy who drowned while swimming Sunday in Mill Creek in SE Salem.

Police have not said where the body was exactly found, or the identity of the victim. The boy was last seen jumping into the creek near the Lakeside Community Mobile Home Park, located at the 3200 block of Turner Rd. SE around 9:00 p.m. Police said the boy jumped into the water and never resurfaced. He was not wearing a life jacket.

As Salem-News.com was first to report Sunday night, Salem Police, Salem Firefighters, and a rescue dive team from the Newberg Fire Department spent the overnight hours searching Mill Creek in SE Salem for the teenage boy.

ODOT Crews Work Quickly to Fix Sinkhole on Highway 219

By next week, ODOT says the highway will go into the regular maintenance schedule for repair.

(ST. PAUL, Ore. ) - Oregon Sinkhole Oregon Department of Transportation crews braved the overnight thunderstorm that passed overhead as they filled a sinkhole on Oregon Highway 219 east of St. Paul.

ODOT maintenance staff upon arrival found the hole which was about two feet deep, and spent the night filling and patching it with what is called a cold patch for the weekend.

Lightning Causes Fires, Power Outages in Salem Overnight

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem Oregon Lightning Salem, the mid-Willamette Valley, and the Oregon Coast range got a great lighting show, and the sound of booming thunder echoed throughout the valley overnight.

Reports into Salem-News.com and on social media had reports of lighting and thunder from Salem, Albany, Corvallis, parts of Eugene, McMinnville, Dallas, and the Oregon Coast Range.

There have been no reports of damage or fires caused by lightning in the Willamette Valley or Oregon Coast Range as of 12:45 a.m. Also no power outages have been reported. lightning

(SALEM, Ore. ) - OREGON BREAKING NEWS The National Weather Service radar at 12:45 a.m. showed a strong band of thunderstorms rolling slowly through the Willamette Valley and Oregon Coast range.

In the Salem-Keizer area, light rain and small hail began to fall from the storm at around 12:30 p.m.

Salem Armed Stand-Off Ends With Suspect in Custody (VIDEO)

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem-News.com Salem Police officers along with the Salem Police SWAT team and negotiators, were able to take a wanted man into custody Sunday after he barricaded himself inside a home.

Salem police were called just before 8:00 a.m. to the 3200 block of River Road N, on a report that a subject wanted on several Domestic Violence charges and a Parole Violation warrant was in the area.

Motorcyclist Dies After High Speed Crash Near Salem

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Police Lights Night A 53-year old male motorcyclist died Friday night when he was involved in a high speed crash on the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Salem.

Oregon State Police spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings says at approximately 10:07 p.m., an OSP trooper patrolling on Interstate 5 near milepost 261 witnessed the operator of a 2009 Harley Davidson lose control while passing other vehicles at an estimated 90 - 95 mph.

Which is more that can be said for the children of Gaza today looking to find a safe haven in present day Egypt under the dictatorship of Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi. Two thousand years ago when the world was under the hegemony of the Roman Empire it was a very different world from today.
