California Edges Closer to Legalizing and Taxing Marijuana (VIDEO)

This proposal would regulate marijuana like alcohol. People who are over 21 years old would be allowed to grow, buy, sell and possess cannabis.

Moore Amendment Would Protect Historic Veterans Property From Being Privately Developed (VIDEO)

Currently, the Milwaukee Soldiers’ Home is on the National Park Service list to earn a place on the National Register of Historic Places.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Milwaukee Soldiers Home The United States House of Representatives today passed a Moore amendment that would protect historic veterans’ grounds in Milwaukee from potential commercial development.

Specifically, the amendment to the Military Construction and Veterans Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2010 would prohibit funds from being used to process new leases for commercial development on historic veterans’ property.

2-641 Aviation Unit, Oregon Army National Guard Returns to Oregon (VIDEO)

Governor Ted Kulongoski and Major General Raymond F. Rees, The Adjutant General are scheduled to be in attendance at the ceremony.

(SALEM, Ore.) - C-23 Sherpa Approximately 20 soldiers from the Second Rotation 2-641 Aviation commanded by LTC Christian Rees are returning to Oregon this evening following a six month tour of duty in Iraq.

Their mission in theater was to conduct flight missions required for battle command of theater operations, liaison among theater commands, transportation of supplies, equipment and personnel within the Iraq area of responsibility.

Reward Offered for Salem Robbery Suspects (VIDEO)

Plaid Pantry is offering a $1000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect, who reportedly stole $40.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Robbery of Salem, Oregon Plaid Pantry, 7-5-09 Salem Police have released robbery video from security cameras at the Plaid Pantry Store located at 1504 Broadway NE.

The suspect was a male, 25 to 30 years of age, approximately five-foot nine-inches, 170 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black jeans, black shoes, red gloves, and had a nylon pulled over his head.

Helicopter Crashes in Grays Harbor: Both People Survive (VIDEO)

It was reported that the passenger survived the crash into the water without being injured. The pilot however, did reportedly suffer minor injuries.

(ASTORIA, Ore.) - Salem-News.com The Coast Guard says a privately owned helicopter crashed into the shallow waters of Grays Harbor, Washington sometime before 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 7th 2009.

It happened about a mile north of Ocean Shores, Washington. The people were located and recovered early in the morning.

UN Calls on Regional Bloc to Find Peaceful Resolution to Honduran Crisis (VIDEO)

The coup d’état has received widespread condemnation from both within and outside the UN.

(GENEVA) - Skyline of the capital of Honduras, Tegucigalpa Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today voiced his sadness at the deaths that have occurred in Honduras following the ouster of President José Manuel Zelaya Rosales, and called on the Organization of American States (OAS) to find a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis.

Mr. Zelaya was ousted by the military on 28 June, hours before a referendum was slated to be held on changing the Honduran constitution.

Oregon Guard Prepares for Iraq Deployment (VIDEO)

(FORT STEWART Ga.) - Oregon soldiers of the 41st BCT prepare for duty in Iraq Oregon National Guard soldiers with the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team were honored during a special sendoff ceremony Friday in Fort Stewart Georgia.
The roughly 3,500 41st IBCT Oregon soldiers are preparing to spend about a year in Iraq, where the U.S. presence is quickly drawing back after the recent July 1st deadline to vacate Iraq's major cities.
