Gresham Heroes Memorial and Tribute Honors Armed Services (VIDEO)

A special ceremony in Gresham honors those who serve in uniform.

(GRESHAM, Ore.) - Photos by Q Madp A dedication ceremony to honor those who have served in the armed forces, fire, and police services was held Saturday in Gresham, at the city's special Heroes Memorial on East Powell Boulevard and SE Roberts Avenue.

The event was organized by the Heroes Memorial and Tribute Task Force, Chief Craig Junginger and the Gresham Police Department. They issued the invite to citizens wishing to support the men and women who serve this nation.

Combat Photojournalist Suicide: The Price of Conflict is Too High

Sometimes the chickens come home to roost; my friend, an incredibly talented war photographer, is another war statistic.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Caleb My friend Caleb Schaber killed himself April 17th. He was an amazing, far-reaching, eclectic artist, archaeologist and war photojournalist and I suspect that his time covering the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan are what led to this.

I suspect that, but I don't know and possibly never will. I just know that some people have tremendous strength and endurance and general survivability even in the worst conditions. This is Caleb's story, and he was one of the strongest and most daring human beings I ever knew.

Motorcyclists Make Big Showing Saturday in Salem (VIDEO)

They remind drivers that the time of year has arrived when increasing numbers of motorcycles will take the state's streets and highways.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Motorcycle event at the Oregon State Capitol, May 2nd, 2009 Hundreds of gleaming motorcycles lined the street in front of the Oregon State Capitol Saturday to celebrate of the kickoff of the riding season.

They say the purpose was to share camaraderie, educate the public, and get the word out about a number of important messages that potentially affect both drivers and cyclists. A number of groups were present at the event that for the most part, was held under sunny skies.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Dutch Army interpreter The term for language interpreters in Iraq and Afghanistan is generally 'terp and they are highly regarded. These are the men and in the case of Iraq, women, who work with Coalition forces and in almost every case, place their lives on the line for doing so.

But Danish troops in Afghanistan are taking a different approach and as the video below from NATO Television indicates, using members of their own forces to translate the lingo can be highly effective to say the least.

UAE: Prosecute Torture by Royal Family Member (VIDEO)

Human Rights Watch says independent body should investigate abuse of Afghan grain dealer, police role and flawed Ministry Review.

(NEW YORK) - Salem-News.com The United Arab Emirates should investigate and prosecute the torture of an Afghan grain dealer by a royal family member, Shaikh Issa bin Zayed al Nahyan, and the police, Human Rights Watch said today.

Videotaped evidence appears to show Shaikh al Nahyan and the police beating, using electric cattle prods on, and driving over the Afghan man.

He has 12 complaints in his career; a suspension last year for violating procedures and neglecting duty, and a reprimand for unprofessional conduct; how could this El Paso Police officer not have already been deemed a liability?
