Parris Island Announces 18 Marines Become Naturalized US Citizens

Earning the title Marine can also help non-U.S. citizens earn the rights and privileges of citizenship.

(PARRIS ISLAND, Ore.) - USMC new citizens Today's graduation ceremony was a landmark for the 456 new Marines of Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, and Oscar Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion. Of those, 18 new Marines also took the Oath of Allegiance and became naturalized U.S. citizens.

“United States citizenship is the greatest honor we grant,” said Wendy Wilcox, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Police Investigate Student Stabbing at North Salem HS

Following the stabbing, the school was in "Lock Down" Thursday afternoon

(SALEM, Ore.) - stabbing investigation At about 12:07 pm, a Salem Police School Resource Officer who is assigned at North Salem High School was returning to the school when he came upon an injured male juvenile.

The investigation determined that the victim, who is a North Salem High School student, was stabbed by another juvenile male, who is also a student at North Salem High School.

Snow Levels Drop and Flood Warnings Continue for NW Oregon

A late winter storm will bring more rain and maybe even some snow.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com While the threat of snow is eminent, an active Flood Watch continues for two rivers, the Pudding River at Aurora and the Tualatin River at Farmington.

A cool and unstable air mass will linger over the region for the next several days. Low elevation temperatures will hover in the
lower to middle 30s each night. Most accumulating snow will remain around 1,000 feet or higher. However, some showers may
bring visible snow down to sea level for most of the next several days.

Peter Courtney Minto Island Bridge to Open in April

Remaining activities must be completed in sequence and are weather-dependent.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Minto Brown walking bridge Despite a project timeline setback early on due to delayed delivery of the large supporting arches, the Peter Courtney Minto Island Bridge is on track to open to the public in April.

The bridge structure, including deck panels, rib arches and other infrastructure is now self supporting. Still to be completed are the bridge deck surface, structure tensioning, and removal of the temporary work bridge.

First Female Veteran Honored in Portland through the Dignity Memorial® Homeless Veteran Burial Program

This service will be unique with all lady veteran pallbearers at the conclusion of the graveside. Also, theater students from Clackamas High School, who are preparing to release a rendition of “A Piece of My Heart,” a true story of women who served in Vietnam, will be in attendance to pay tribute.

(DAMASCUS, Syria) - Syrian child Ten-year old Ghina Wadi had another of what hopefully will be a leg saving operation last Friday. She has spent the past seven months often in unbearable pain, which for the first month was periodically relieved for only approximately 15 minutes at a time- by heavy injections of morphine.

Ghina was shot by a sniper on 8/2/2016 on the main street in Madaya at the Abdel Majed checkpoint when she was on her way to buy medicine for her mother, Sahar. Her accompanying seven-year-old sister Nagham was also injured in her hand and arm.
