UN Food Distribution Now Reaching Two Million Earthquake Refugees

There have been reports of looting and violence here since the earthquake struck, but today, there were no reports of disturbances as the food delivery began and people were anxiously waiting to receive aid.

(CITE SOLEIL/SALEM) - UN Force Commander Major General Floriano Peixoto United Nations peacekeepers from Brazil along with the United States Army distributed food today in Cite Soleil, one of the poorest and most troubled neighborhoods in Port-au-Prince.

The partnership between American and UN forces strengthens the ability to secure an area while contributing to humanitarian aid on the ground.

OR 2010 Homeless Count: A Sad but Significant Tally (AUDIO REPORT)

Last year's one-night tally counted just over 17,000 Oregonians, including 4,300 children.

(SALEM, Ore. ONS) - Homeless man This week, an army of volunteers visits shelters, food pantries, tent cities and even jails in an attempt to count the number of homeless people in every state.

In the 2008 survey, Oregon topped the list for the highest per-capita number of homeless people, at just over one-half percent of the population.

Pedestrian Hit and Killed by Vehicle

Investigators do not believe speed or alcohol was a factor in this incident and the driver is not being cited.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Pedestrian killed Portland Police Officers responded to the area of 122nd and Foster tonight at 7:20 p.m., on a call that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.

Detective Mary Wheat with Portland Police says when the officers arrived, they found a deceased 44-year-old man at the scene. "The driver of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian remained at the scene and cooperated with police."
