Rain Eases but Storm-Battered Pelicans Still Pouring into California Bird Centers

The Los Angeles Center in San Pedro has now received over 60 pelicans from the storms.

(LOS ANGELES) - The weekend brought Southern California its first break from relentless storms, but bird rescue experts at the International Bird Rescue Research Center are fighting to save over 100 cold, wet California Brown Pelicans, as more hypothermic birds keep coming.

Night Patrol in Cite Soleil, Haiti

Reports of looting and violent crime are up in the capital following the earthquake.

(PORT-AU-PRINCE/SALEM) - Haiti quake victims Cite Soleil is one of the poorest, most troubled neighborhoods in Port-au-Prince. The streets were controlled by warlords until United Nations peacekeepers liberated it from gangs in 2008.

The slums here are grim in the best of times, and now locals find themselves sleeping on the street. Their homes crushed from last week’s earthquake, thousands are buried beneath rubble.

To protect the depositors, the FDIC entered into a purchase and assumption agreement with Columbia State Bank, Tacoma, Washington, to assume all of the deposits of Columbia River Bank.

International Press Institute condemns deportation amid concerns that legal hurdles were politically motivated.

(NEW YORK) - Israel`s Ben-Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv Jared Malsin, editor of the English section of Ma’an News Agency was deported by the Israeli authorities on Wednesday. Following a week in custody at Ben Gurion International Airport, the American journalist was flown to New York City yesterday morning.

Malsin was detained on 12 January at the airport after landing, as he and his girlfriend were returning from a holiday in the Czech Republic.
