Viva Palestina Rolls Into Gaza After Violent Attack by Egyptian Police

The Qatar-based Al Jazeera reported that a convoy of eight trucks started crossing the Rafah Terminal.

(GAZA STRIP) - Gaza Crossing 1-6-10 Sources in the Mideast report that the Viva Palestina Convoy, after facing ongoing Egyptian rejection and violent attacks by the Egyptian security forces, started on Wednesday evening to roll into the besieged Gaza Strip.

Thousands of Palestinians, carrying flowers and flags, gathered in the streets while the convoy continued to move in.

Oregon Firefighters Endorse John Kitzhaber

To date, Kitzhaber has received the support of all three labor unions that have made public endorsements.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - John Kitzhaber The Oregon State Firefighters Council announced their endorsement of John Kitzhaber for Governor today. The support of the Firefighters represents the first major public safety endorsement in the 2010 campaign for Governor and gives Kitzhaber another significant labor endorsement.

“We are proud to be an early endorser of Oregon’s next Governor,” said Oregon State Firefighters Council President Kelly Bach.

Nevadans for Sensible Marijuana Laws Submits Petition for 2012 Ballot Initiative

Proposal would create state-regulated marijuana suppliers and retail stores throughout the state.

(CARSON CITY, Nv.) - Salem-News.com Today, on the steps of the State Capitol building, the campaign manager for Nevadans for Sensible Marijuana Laws, Dave Schwartz, unveiled the details of a proposed 2012 ballot initiative to establish a taxed and regulated marijuana market in the state of Nevada.

The press conference occurred immediately after Schwartz submitted the initiative petition to the Secretary of State. Submission to the Secretary of State is a prerequisite to circulating the petition throughout the state.

China Jails Tibetan Filmmaker

The India-based Tibetan government-in-exile estimates that 220 Tibetans were killed and 7,000 were detained in a subsequent region-wide crackdown.

(HONG KONG) - Dhondup Wangchen Authorities in the northwestern Chinese province of Qinghai have handed down a six-year jail sentence to a Tibetan filmmaker who returned from exile to make a documentary about his homeland, Radio Free Asia (RFA) reports.

The Xilin People’s Court handed down the sentence to Dhondup Wangchen, the producer of the documentary “Leaving Fear Behind,” in a secret trial that found him guilty of “splitting the motherland,” Tibetan sources told RFA’s Tibetan service.
