(AGOURA HILLS, Calif.) - Heart Dennis Prager, one of the most influential men in my life, spoke on his talk show recently about the impact of a first year on marriage. He asked if an easy, successful first year or a difficult, hard first year were indicative of the long-term success of the marriage?

He didn’t take a position either way, allowing callers to offer their stories, which were both positive and negative about the impact of their first years on their marriages.

Oregon Coast Man Dies in Crash on Highway 138W

The lone occupant was found deceased with safety restraints in use.

(SUTHERLIN, Ore.) - Fatal crash 12-27-09 near Sutherlin, Oregon Police say a 66-year old Reedsport-area man died late Monday night when his car drove off the side of Highway 138W near the Tyee curves northwest of Sutherlin.

Oregon State Police say they are continuing the investigation which may have been caused by a medical problem suffered by the driver prior to the crash.

Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Crash on Highway 20 west of Burns

The victim was a member of the United States Coast Guard. He was in the process of transferring from his duty station in North Bend, Oregon to a duty station in Virginia.

(BURNS, Ore.) - Fatal crash near Burns, Oregon 12-29-09 A 19-year old Boise, Idaho resident serving in the United States Coast Guard died late Monday evening or early Tuesday morning following a single-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 20 west of Burns.

On December 29, 2009 at about 7:45 a.m. an Oregon Department of Transportation employee driving along Highway 20 near milepost 116 saw a crashed vehicle off the roadway. Upon checking the crashed vehicle it was discovered a deceased driver was still inside.

Neighborhood residential streets do not receive treatment in a snow and ice event, and snow and ice removal from sidewalks is the responsibility of the adjacent property owner.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland, Oregon Today's surprise snowfall is creating hazardous driving conditions for Portland motorists all over the city, especially in the West Hills where the Portland Bureau of Transportation is responding to reports of slick streets.

Major arterials are in pretty good condition, with snow melting as vehicles drive over it. Neighborhood sidestreets that are not getting as much traffic are more slick.

Be Prepared for Snow on Sexton, Siskiyou Mountain Passes

Drivers need to be prepared for snow on Sexton and Siskiyou mountain passes in southern Oregon.

(SISKIYOU MOUNTAINS) - Snowy road Drivers moving between Oregon and California on Interstate 5 will have to be prepared for tough winter driving conditions. ODOT Assistant District Manager Shaun Stephens says chain restrictions are currently not in place but drivers should carry chains and come prepared.

Bird of the Week: Burrowing Parrot, Loro Barranquero, Cyanoliceus Patagonus

The loro barraquero nests in dens or cliffs over the sea coast or along rivers, hatching up to four white eggs.

(PATAGONIA, Argentina) - loro barraquero We have long been familiar with the local parrot, the cachana or austral parakeet which flies in groups around El Bolson - but were thrilled to see the largest of Argentine parrots, the burrowing parrot when we were recently in Chubut, to the south of Rio Negro Province.

This loro has a black beak, white rimmed eyes, and an olive green head. The back and sides of the neck are whitish, the breast and back of the neck are greyish olive, the flanks yellow olive, the abdomen and upper legs are yellow and orange, the back is green/olive, the sides greyish, the wings olive with blue margins, the legs and feet are whiteish.

(JERUSALEM) - Above: Protestors approach the Wall in Ni`lin. Every week, as I return from lessons in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Rehavia, I pass by the tent erected by activists in support of the Gilead Shalit, the captive Israeli soldier.

Each time I pass by and wish them good luck I am struck by the steadfast commitment to their cause while I am also, sadly, reminded of my own inactivity in the cause of my imprisoned friends.
