Work Center Inmate Walks Away From Work Crew

Morganstern was serving a 182 day sentence on a Burglary II charge out of Marion County.

(SALEM, Ore.) - A Marion County Work Center inmate walked away from a work crew at the Oregon State Fairgrounds Monday at approximately 10:20 a.m.

At 10:00 am, the work crew leader directed 21-year old inmate Derik Morganstern and another inmate to pick up trash in the 4-H barn, according to Lt. Sheila Lorance with the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

OSP Trooper Injured: Patrol Car Struck From Behind on Icy I-84

The trooper was released from an area hospital after treatment for minor injuries and the other vehicle's driver was cited for Careless Driving.

(Hood River, Ore.) - OSP reports a third similar incident in as many weeks, in which an OSP patrol car was struck by another motorist while patrolling the icy roadways of the Columbia River Gorge.

"The OSP trooper was slightly injured and his patrol car damaged Sunday night when he was struck by another vehicle that had lost control near Hood River," Shortt said.

(CAIRO, Egypt) - Hedy Epstein, the 85 year old Holocaust survivor and peace activist, announced that she will begin a hunger strike today as a response to the Egyptian government’s refusal to allow the Gaza Freedom March participants into Gaza.

Ms. Epstein was part of a delegation with participants from 43 countries that were to join Palestinians in a non-violent march from Northern Gaza towards the Erez border with Israel calling for the end of the illegal siege.

Gaza Freedom Marchers Maintain Pressure in Cairo for Border Opening

Activists are keeping up the pressure with the intent that Egypt should open the border and allow the convoy to go to Gaza.

(CAIRO, Egypt) - The Gaza Freedom March is being held up by the Egyptian government after all, in spite of word issued a few days ago that Egypt had changed its position on allowing entry into Gaza.

It has been one year since the Israeli military decimated the people of Gaza in retaliation for Hamas rocket attacks that killed a small number of Israeli people, approximately seven. In retaliation, Israel unleashed an attack involving illegal weapons and specific targeting of ambulance crews and schools.

Teenage Boy Falls to His Death From Parking Garage

Investigators are attempting to determine if this incident was a suicide or an accident, they say foul play was not involved.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Police say a 15-year old boy either fell or jumped to his death today from a parking garage. Officers responded today at 3:30 p.m. to the parking garage in the area of SW 6th Avenue and Washington Street in downtown Portland, according to Detective Mary Wheat with the Portland Police Bureau.

"When officers arrived, they found a 15-year-old boy deceased at the scene. Officers interviewed witnesses at the scene who stated that the deceased boy had fallen or jumped from the parking garage."

U.S. EPA Releases Annual Enforcement Results and Mapping Tool

A new mapping tool will help increase transparency and also improve access to data.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - The EPA has released enforcement results for fiscal year 2009, and has developed a new Web-based tool and interactive map that allows the public to get detailed information by location about the enforcement actions taken at approximately 4,600 facilities.
