Frozen Pipe Calls Keep Firefighters Busy

Hillsboro Fire and Rescue offers tips for residents who want to avoid frozen water pipes.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Two Hillsboro firefighters push water from an unheated warehouse flooded by a broken sprinkler pipe. Fire officials in Hillsboro say a flurry of broken water pipes in homes and businesses frozen by the week's surprisingly cold temperatures, prompted citizens to call firefighters for help.

Storm Smith with Hillsboro Fire, says once the temperatures rose near 32-degrees on Tuesday and the broken pipes began thawing, firefighters began responding to calls for assistance.

Video Footage Reveals Raid on Rick Simpson Home

Here is actual footage taken during the raid in Canada November 25, 2009.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Apparently without a warrant, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) raided medical marijuana activist Rick Simpson's home. The video below was produced by Christian Laurette, also producer of Run From The Cure.

This is the third police raid since 2005 on the man who cures cancer (and controls many other illnesses) with hemp oil. Police were aware of the cameras in the house due to posted window and door signs.

Warming Center Opens in Salem

Red Cross responds to need for emergency sheltering of vulnerable.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Red Cross Warming Center in Portland Volunteers with the Willamette Chapter of the American Red Cross are opening a Warming Center in Salem tonight to help shelter people from the cold weather. The site for the Warming Center will be at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall located at 630 Hood St NE in Salem.

The shelter is open until 7:00 a.m. today, and then will open at 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on Thursday and Friday. Weekend hours to be determined based on need.

Greenpeace Calls on Obama to Honor World Committment on Climate Change

We have the technology, the money, and the moral imperative to do this now. We only lack the political will.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Sofia Gidlund and Allie Simpson of Greenpeace When the Nobel Peace Prize Committee announced President Obama as this year’s winner, many people were surprised. The announcement was met with a mixed reaction in the United States.
