Motorcyclists Seriously injured in Crash on Highway 242 near Viewpoint

A driver was cited for Dangerous Left Turn.

(VENETA, Ore.) - Helicopter landing on Highway 242 Police say a Bend-area couple was seriously injured Sunday afternoon when the motorcycle they were riding on crashed into the side of a passenger vehicle that turned in front of them on Highway 242 about three miles west of the viewpoint.

On August 16, 2009 at approximately 4:00 p.m. a 1999 Subaru Legacy driven by 61-year William F. Foster of Veneta, was westbound on Highway 242 near milepost 76 when it attempted to turn left toward a highway turnout.

Kidnapped Oregon Family Found Safe in Bakersfield, California

A combination of family and police efforts led to the safe recovery of four family members who were under threat by the alleged kidnapper.

(BAKERSFIELD, Calif.) - File photo of Kern County patrol car Salem Police say they were contacted by Kern County deputies in Bakersfield, California, over a family who had been kidnapped from the Salem area on Wednesday, August 12th.

They were found safe in Bakersfield Friday evening.

Crash Claims One Life on Highway 126 west of Walton (PHOTOS)

Several people were injured and transported to the hospital.

(WALTON, Ore.) - Fatal crash Police troopers are investigating Sunday morning's fatal traffic crash on Highway 126 west of Walton that resulted in the death of one person and injuries to four others.

OSP says a passenger car driven by the adult female victim westbound on Highway 126 near milepost 30, crossed the center line and sideswiped an eastbound 2007 Dodge pickup with five occupants.

Linn County Sheriff Deputy Arrests Driver for Speeding at 153 MPH

A second person described as Anderson's girlfriend, was also arrested on a felony warrant out of Oregon.

(Albany, ore.) - 25-year old Christopher Vaughn Gordy of Rancho Cucamonga, California Police report that a 26-year-old psychiatric patient wanted for felony escape from the Oregon State Hospital in Salem was arrested Sunday afternoon in Ogden, Utah. A second person identified as his girlfriend was also arrested.

Oregon State Police detectives confirmed David Anderson, who had escaped from a supervised hospital yard on Saturday afternoon, was apprehended about 3:00 p.m. Sunday by Ogden Police Department and taken into custody.

One Person Dies in Crash on Highway 30 West of The Dalles

The vehicle's passenger, 52-year old Timothy Riddle of The Dalles, reportedly left the scene of the crash.

(THE DALLES, Ore.) - Fatal crash Traffic investigators say a 38-year old The Dalles resident died Thursday evening after a single vehicle crash about two miles west of The Dalles.

The initial investigation by Oregon State Police troopers indicates alcohol and speed were both contributing factors in the crash.

Marines Take Increased Casualties in Afghanistan`s Helmand Province

Five of the eight killed since August 7th happened in Helmand; one soldier died at Camp Phoenix and a Green Beret was killed in the Kunar Province. One soldier died of natural causes in Kuwait.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com This is as good of a time as any for Americans to remind themselves that we are at war in Afghanistan and losing plenty of military personnel there.

I just wrapped up one report with 15 people killed in 14 days and this morning we were notified of three more deaths. Each life is extremely important and should never be viewed as a simple statistic.

VA Announces Expansion of Counseling for Combat Veterans

Oregon's Deschutes County is on the list for one of the new VA centers.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - U.S. soldiers in Iraq Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki announced that combat Veterans will receive readjustment counseling and other assistance in 28 additional communities across the
country where the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will establish Vet Centers in 2010.

"VA is committed to providing high-quality outreach and readjustment counseling to all combat Veterans," Secretary Shinseki said. "These 28 new Vet Centers will address the growing need for those services."

Lockheed Fire in California Raging Out of Control

The last fire to burn this area was the Pine Mountain Fire in 1948.

(SANTA CRUZ) - Lockheed Fire AccuWeather.com meteorologists do not believe that lightning started the fire that broke in the Santa Cruz Mountains of central California Wednesday evening.

The rapid spread of the fire was aided by winds gusting to nearly 20 mph. The fire is burning in a heavily wooded, evergreen forest area well south of San Francisco, north of Bonny Doon in Santa Cruz County.
