DOD Refuses To Turn Over List Of Bagram Detainee Information

Government Must Shed Light On Afghan Prison To Prevent "Other Guantánamos," Says ACLU.

(NEW YORK) - Salem-News.com The ACLU says the government can't continue withholding a list of names, citizenship, length of detention, capture location and other vital information about detainees at the Bagram detention facility.

In response to an FOIA request made by the ACLU for documents related to the detention and treatment of prisoners at Bagram, the DOD told the ACLU that it has a list containing basic information about the Bagram detainees but is withholding it in its entirety.

Chechnya RFP) - Chechen human rights activist Natalia Estemirova Reporters Without Borders is shocked and angered to learn that the bodies of Zarema Sadulayeva, the head of an NGO that tried to dissuade young people from joining separatist armed groups, and her husband, Alek Djabrailov, were found with gunshot wounds in the boot of a car in Chechnya today following their abduction in the Chechen capital yesterday.

One of the few sources of information about the growing violence and human rights abuses in Ingushetia is the news website Ingushetia.org, whose owner, Magomed Yevloyev, was shot dead while in police custody minutes after being arrested on his return to Ingushetia on 31 August 2008.

Student Workers Stymied in Attempt to Unionize (AUDIO)

The state Employment Relations Board already has certified the union as the students' bargaining agent.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ONS) - SEIU logo 14 college students at Portland State University (PSU) may not have realized what a can of worms they'd open when they asked a labor union if they could join.

They are hourly workers in the recycling program who voted unanimously to be part of the service employees' union, SEIU. Now the Oregon University System says it won't include the recyclers in current negotiations.

Woman Arrested for Poisoning Baby Daughter with Morphine

She's on probation in LA County for poisoning of her then 10-month-old child in a very similar situation.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - 25-year-old Sara Rose Dillard-Lubin An Oregon woman is charged with giving her infant daughter a high dose of morphine in order to gain attention from the father of the child.

Investigators say on June 3, 2009, 25-year-old Sara Rose Dillard-Lubin took her then two-month-old daughter to the emergency room at St. Vincent's Hospital claiming that her daughter had a high fever.

Death Investigation - Interstate 84 near North Powder

OSP troopers from the La Grande Area Command office are completing the investigation.

(NORTH POWDER, Ore.) - Death investigation A California truck driver died Wednesday evening when he had a medical problem while driving a commercial motor vehicle westbound on Interstate 84 near North Powder, Oregon State Police said.

The truck's co-driver was able to safely bring the truck to a stop after the man suffered what may have been a heart attack. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

First Annual Silent Weekend at WOU Conducted Entirely in ASL

A special event will raise awareness about people who deaf.

(MONMOUTH, Ore.) - Students at Western Oregon University Western Oregon University will hold its first ever Silent Weekend from August 14 to 16 on campus. This weekend, conducted completely in American Sign Language (ASL) is for Deaf and hearing students, interpreters, interpreter educators and ASL instructors.

The weekend will open with a performance of ASL stories, poems and jokes by seven Northwest performers: Brenda Aron, Justin Coleman, Fred Farrior, Patrick Fischer, Brad Houck, Heath Goodall and Carl Schroeder.

Alligator Found at Oregon`s Applegate River

Due to safety concerns that may arise trying to capture the alligator before it returned to the water, the trooper shot and killed it before climbing out onto the log and retrieving it.

(GRANTS PASS, Ore.) - alligator An unusual find last weekend on Applegate River in southern Oregon is an example of the concern that Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife and Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division (OSP) have related to problems surrounding bringing in and then releasing non-native species in our State.

On August 8, 2009 at about 4:00 p.m. OSP Senior Trooper Marty Marchand responded to a report that two small children went down to the Applegate River near Murphy southeast of Grants Pass where they saw an alligator on a log.
