Police Investigate Fatal Crash Near Gold Hill

The driver of a Nissan, 76-year old Glafiro Javier Fernandea of Lakewood, Washington was pronounced deceased at the scene.

(GOLD HILL, Ore.) - Fatal crash 8-13-09 in Gold Hill, Oregon Police say a Lakewood, Washington man died Thursday morning after colliding into the rear of another vehicle and rolling over onto the shoulder of the northbound lanes on Interstate 5 about one mile from Gold Hill in southern Oregon.

Oregon State Police troopers from the Central Point Area Command office say they are continuing the investigation.

Corvallis Police Release 911 Call in Homicide Investigation (AUDIO)

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - The Corvallis Police and the Benton County Major Crimes Team are contuing to actively investigate the murder of 78-year old Yvonne C. Perry.

Captain Jonathan M. Sassaman with the Corvallis Police Department, says they have released the recording of the initial 911 Call. The female caller who reported the Homicide has asked to not be identified.

New Data Shows Nearly One-Third of all Mortgages Underwater

Salem Shows 24.55 Percent of Mortgages in Negative Equity.

(SALEM, Ore.) - More than 15.2 million U.S. mortgages, or 32.2 percent of all mortgaged properties, were in negative equity position as of June 30, 2009 according to newly released data from First American CoreLogic.

In Salem, 16,926, or 24.55 percent of all properties with a mortgage, are in negative equity. A total of 21,268 mortgages, or 30.85 percent, are in near negative equity or negative equity.

Wind Power Reaches Milestone on BPA System

BPA is instituting new operational procedures and developing new technologies to deal with the variability of wind on the system.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Wind has arrived. In early August, for the first time, the Bonneville Power Administration’s transmission grid reached a milestone, carrying more than 2,000 megawatts of wind power for more than an hour.

On Aug. 6, after flirting with the 2,000-megawatt threshold for weeks, total wind generation on BPA’s system blew right past that level at 5:15 p.m., reaching a new all-time peak of 2,089 megawatts at 6:19 p.m.

Albany Man Killed in Crash on Highway 20 Near Eddyville

Two others were seriously injured in the crash.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Police say an Albany-area man died and two others were seriously injured Wednesday morning in a two vehicle head-on crash on Highway 20 about two miles east of Eddyville.

OSP Sergeant Justin McGladrey says today at approximately 8:10 a.m. a 2006 Saab was eastbound on Highway 20 near milepost 26 when it attempted to pass another vehicle using the westbound lane, striking another vehicle head-on.
