My Fear of Plagiarism

The mixed values of a safe and original set of words.

(CALGARY, Alberta) - Plagiarism As a writer I have a deathly fear of plagiarism. It begins immediately with my hyperawareness that every word in my sentences have been published elsewhere, by someone else.

Am I putting myself at risk by reusing them? I think individual words are probably okay. They are in the dictionary which, I hope, makes them public domain.

El Toro Marines Exposed to Radiation

Marines who worked in a radiation contaminated portion of a hangar at former Marine Corps Air Station El Toro were exposed to Radium 226. No action was taken to notify any Marine veteran who worked in the hangar.

(IRVINE, Calif.) - Salem-News.com Marines were exposed to radiation in a huge maintenance hangar at former Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) El Toro, California. The number of Marines who worked in the portion of the hangar contaminated with Radium 226 (Ra 226) is unknown. The hangar was constructed in 1944 and continued to support operations until the base closed in 1999.

Radiation contaminant from a Ra 226 paint room was found during a radiological survey of the hangar by a Navy contractor.

Wyden Hits Oil Speculators in the Wallet

Senator Introduces STOP Act to End Tax Breaks for Oil Speculators.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - U.S. Senator Ron Wyden In order to reduce excessive speculative trading in oil and natural gas, U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), a member of both the Senate Finance and Energy and Natural Resources Committees, introduced the Stop Tax-breaks for Oil Profiteering (STOP) Act of 2009 today.

The legislation would end tax breaks that non-commercial speculators currently enjoy, and tax all profits at the same rate as ordinary income for tax-paying investors. Oil and gas trading gains would be treated as unrelated business income for tax-exempt investors.

In response to a report that a Quran had been defiled, a mob of up to 20,000 individuals in Gojra rioted and, on Saturday, attacked local Christian residents for no other reason than their religious beliefs.

Lectures and Films Planned in Conjunction with Vietnam War Photo Exhibition

A rare opportunity for Oregonians.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The Hallie Ford Museum of Art at Willamette University has planned a variety of free lectures and films for September in conjunction with the exhibition Requiem: By the Photographers Who Died in Vietnam and Indochina, on display August 15 through November 8.

The exhibition features 160 photographs from the collection of the George Eastman House/International Museum of Photography and Film in Rochester, N.Y., taken by photographers who died in Vietnam between 1945 and 1975.

(CALGARY, Alberta) - Woman being arrested I recently spent a morning as an observer at the provincial criminal court in Calgary. There were the usual run of the mill cases—some individuals were clearly bad news; some individuals were clearly confused about how they got there—when a woman in custody appeared in the prisoner’s box and changed my entire perspective on the proceedings.

She looked used and abused, making it difficult to guess her age, but I would say about 30.

Agriculture Appropriations Bill Passed by Senate Includes Funding for Oregon Projects

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Oregon farm Working to improve agricultural research capabilities in Oregon, U.S. Senators Ron Wyden (D- Ore.) and Jeff Merkley (D- Ore.) announced that an agriculture appropriations bill passed by the U.S. Senate contains more than nearly $7 million in projects for Oregon.

Included in the bill is funding for research into improving Oregon’s crops, utilizing Oregon’s forest resources, and controlling invasive species.
