Recovery Act Funding Will Purchase New Ferry Boat, Improve Ferry Landings and Terminal.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - The Buena Vista Ferry on the Willamette River. U.S. Senators Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) announced today that $3.2 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds will be used to revitalize the Buena Vista Ferry.

Bomb Techs Render Suspicious Object Safe at State Fairgrounds

The suspicious device was a two and a half foot long cylindrical object.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon State Polide Bomb Tech Oregon State Police bomb technicians determined a suspicious object reported Tuesday morning in the north parking lot of the Oregon State Fairgrounds near Silverton Road in Salem was not an explosive device.

The police and bomb technician response closed a short section of Silverton Road for approximately 90 minutes, according to Oregon State Police Spokesman, Lt. Gregg Hastings.

Major Tribute to Veterans This Weekend in Albany (VIDEO)

Veterans at Timber Linn Park need construction and labor help on the Traveling Vietnam Wall.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Volunteers are needed at Timber Linn Park in Albany to help construct an amazing tribute for veterans that will be on display through July 19th.

The Oregon Veteran's Tribute is presented by the Linn County Veterans Memorial Association and it takes place through Sunday. It consists of the Traveling Vietnam Wall and the Veteran's of Oregon Field of Flags.

National Sikh Organization Rejects `Gaping Hole` in Oregon Discrimination Bills

“There is a gaping hole in the Oregon Workplace Religious Freedom Act” - Rajdeep Singh Jolly, SALDEF’s Director of Law and Policy

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Today, the Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund urged Oregon's Governor to veto a bill that would forbid teachers from wearing any form of religious clothing.

The Oregon Workplace Religious Freedom Act SB 76, contemplates greater religious freedom for employees but exempts public schools from its coverage.

Police Investigate Critical Injury Traffic Crash on Highway 26 (PHOTOS)

The adult male driver of a speeding passenger car was critically injured and taken by LifeFlight to OHSU.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Crash on Highway 26 in Oregon, 7-14-09 One person was critically injured Tuesday afternoon when his car crashed into two other vehicles at high speed at the intersection of Highway 26 and Kelso Road west of Sandy.

Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police says the car was moving fast, "The offending vehicle had just come into an Oregon State Police sergeant's radar at 107 mph before colliding with the other two vehicles."

AMBER Alert Issued for 2 California Children

The suspect vehicle is a 2005 dark blue Toyota Scion with California tag number 5HPC820. The car has dark tinted windows.

(NORWALK, Calif.) - Amber Alert logo The State of California issued an Amber Alert Tuesday afternoon after two children were reportedly abducted in Norwalk earlier in the afternoon.

Investigators say the children's father left them in the vehicle with the engine running while he went inside a business for a few minutes. The abductor reportedly jumped into the vehicle and drove off with the children inside.

American voices are growing more openly critical of Israel as U.S. taxpayer money is swallowed by the Jewish state.

(CALGARY, Alberta) - Israeli girls writing messages on shells of bombs that will be dropped on Palestinians Anti-Semitism used to be about bigotry and intolerance and justifiably condemned. Today anti-Semitism is about any criticism of Israel and its actions, no matter how legitimate and justifiable the criticism.

This latter is where I was until I started working with Salem-News. I’d always been a standard issue supporter of Israel, but that was because my view was formed by the contents of the standard media. Here at S-N, I’ve become aware that there are two sides to this tragic geopolitical horror show.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - A U.S. Army soldier in Iraq motions toward an approaching individual while on patrol. Anybody who has survived Infantry Basic Training and Advanced Infantry Training knows it is usually more physically demanding than combat itself.

When the enemy starts shooting, that is something drastically different and this is where PTSD jumps in the brain. Battle Terror is the KEY to PTSD.

UPDATE: Escondido, California Teen`s Remains Located After One Year (VIDEO)

Her remains were reportedly located over the weekend.

(ESCONDIDO,Calif.) - Salem-News.com UPDATE: Police report that the skeletal remains of Amber Dubois have been positively identified.

San Diego's Channel 10 News reports that the discovery of this girl's remains came shortly after police located the body of 17-year-old Chelsea King who disappeared Feb. 25 from a park about 10 miles south of where Amber was last seen walking with a man.
